I love [name]Violet[/name] it makes me think of the flowers. It’s a beautiful flowery name with a great vintage edge. It’s just outside of the top 100 girls names used last year - that is 2872 girls were given that name last year.

I think it’s pretty, but to be honest, I’m so completely over this name. I see it in so many threads and all over the place [name]IRL[/name].

I agree with dantea. I’d go for [name]Lavender[/name] or [name]Lilac[/name].

I like it but it seems to be EVERYWHERE online.

Thanks guys! I do agree that it seems to be slowly taking over the naming boards, but since this would be a name for me, a teenberry, it would be pretty rare for my age group. [name]Do[/name] you think that makes much of a difference?

Coming back to say that I want to give you some alternate suggestions.

If it’s the flower you like:

[name]Azalea[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name]
[name]Iris[/name] – though this is starting to be all over these forums too, but i haven’t met one [name]IRL[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] – same as above
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Lotus[/name]
[name]Leilani[/name]

If it’s the color you like:

[name]Azure[/name] – met one of these this last weekend, was fabulous on her
[name]Ebony[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Henna[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
[name]Lavender[/name]
[name]Magenta[/name] – I know one, she wears it very well
[name]Mauve[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Vermilion[/name]
[name]Xanthene[/name]

I love [name]Violet[/name]. It’s on my top 4. I think of (of course!) the color purple/violet, and it makes me think of a sweet, happy little girl who loves to wear dresses and have tea parties.

I love [name]Violet[/name]. It’s sweet and vintage but not frilly. I know it’s popular online, but I have never met a [name]Violet[/name] in real life, so I don’t think it’s too common yet. And in the teen age group it’d be seen as a cool name different from the legions of Emilys and Jessicas.

I think it’s an excellent choice. As you noted it’s uncommon in your age group, but it’s a mature, dignified, sweet name that will serve you well. It will be striking, but in the right way. It’s not ludicrous by any means to meet a teenaged [name]Violet[/name], so it wouldn’t engender the same skepticism that [name]Wren[/name] or [name]Willow[/name] would.

I agree with @blade for a teenager I think [name]Violet[/name] is quite perfect - very few girls were given the name back then but because it’s a historically acknowledged name nobody would think twice about it.

I love it, obviously. She was named aftery husband, his favorite color is purple and [name]Violet[/name] was my favorite version of the color purple for a name. It is probably the most common of my kids names ([name]Sebastian[/name] is higher on the ssa chart, but [name]IRL[/name] I have met more violets), but it fits her and I love the meaning. We actually call her Vio as a nn.

Anyways, I love it. And it ages well, classes up and dresses down and earthy.

I love [name]Violet[/name]. It isn’t too common yet (and certainly not in your age group) and, to me, it has a film noir heroine feel to it - vintage, but sassy.

If this baby is a girl we’re naming her [name]Violet[/name]. I’ve never met one in real life and I doubt we’ll get any eye-rolls when we announce her name. It’s a sweet spunky name and I love it.
