I’m looking for virtue names for the second middle spot on my two girl choices. I’m looking for things not as common as [name_f]Grace[/name_f]/[name_f]Hope[/name_f]/[name_f]Faith[/name_f] but more along the lines of [name_f]Amity[/name_f]/[name_f]Verity[/name_f] etc.
What do you think of
Agape ~ love
Blessing
[name_u]Comfort[/name_u]
Empathy
[name_f]Love[/name_f]
[name_f]Patience[/name_f]
Tranquil
Wonder
The only one off your list I like is [name_f]Patience[/name_f], but how about:
[name_f]Constance[/name_f]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_f]Amity[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarity[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Alethea[/name_f] (meaning ‘truth’)
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (‘happiness’)
[name_f]Clemency[/name_f]
[name_f]Honor[/name_f]
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_f]Liberty[/name_f]
[name_f]Verina[/name_f]
[name_f]Satyana[/name_f] (meaning ‘truth’)
[name_f]Virtue[/name_f] (I have seen this as a name)
[name_f]Indira[/name_f] (meaning ‘beauty’)
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] (also meaning ‘beauty’)
From your list I like [name_f]Patience[/name_f]. I prefer Solace to [name_u]Comfort[/name_u] and Lovejoy or Loveday to just [name_f]Love[/name_f]. There is also [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], Joyous, [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u], Hopestill, [name_f]Clarity[/name_f] and Providence.
I didn’t know [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] counted as a virtue, I debated adding in to my own list of suggestions but didn’t because I wasn’t sure. Now I’m glad you listed it, so I know for the future
I like [name_f]Patience[/name_f], and Wonder is a GP of mine I love the PP suggestion of [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]!
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]
[name_u]Truth[/name_u]/[name_u]True[/name_u]
[name_f]Clemency[/name_f]
[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] (considered the ideal name for a woman of virtue in [name_m]Rome[/name_m])
[name_f]Honor[/name_f]
[name_u]Merritt[/name_u]
[name_f]Pleasant[/name_f]/Pleasance
[name_f]Tahira[/name_f] (pure and chaste)
[name_f]Unity[/name_f]
I’d be very careful because a lot of virtue names are awful irony waiting to happen. [name_f]Patience[/name_f], [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], [name_f]Temperance[/name_f], [name_f]Chastity[/name_f], [name_f]Faith[/name_f], and the more ‘out there’ Puritan ones are names that I and the vast majority of my friends would think are mocking us at least half the time. It isn’t fair to impose the more greyscale morality on an infant. The latter two names, for example, wouldn’t fit a feminist atheist for example, and you don’t know what your daughter will be like.
The more generally positive ones like [name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_f]Serenity[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], and [name_f]Joy[/name_f] are a lot more wearable and less likely to become cruel jokes from the universe. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] may occasionally despair, but I think that’s different from [name_f]Patience[/name_f] jumping and fidgeting all the time or [name_f]Chastity[/name_f] losing her virginity.
The only one I really love is [name_f]Constance[/name_f]. I think it sort of steers away from most teasing potential… except maybe during experimental teenage years. It’s popular in the UK and I love the nickname [name_u]Connie[/name_u].
Some I would avoid; Prudence is gorgeous but I only hear ‘prude’. I saw Silence on here recently, which I find disturbingly oppressive. Chastity too… I mean… seriously? People actually name their baby that?
I also generally hate the use of [name_f]Silence[/name_f] and [name_f]Chastity[/name_f]. But the argument that I don’t know what my daughter will be like goes both way. I don’t know if she’ll be a feminist atheist or a nun so these names are picked with love and consideration as a wish we’re bestowing on our child. I’m finding it weird to get this argument over here but when I was asking for virtues for boys everyone suggested Brave/[name_m]Noble[/name_m] and those and no one argued that I don’t know my son will be Brave.
Anyway, thanks all. Rather than respond individually, I’ll just say I like
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarity[/name_f]
[name_f]Alethea[/name_f] (meaning ‘truth’)
[name_f]Honor[/name_f]
[name_f]Satyana[/name_f] (meaning truth) ` I had no idea. It’s really cool and pretty but too ethnic for us?
Solace
I don’t think [name_f]Satyana[/name_f] is too ethnic - [name_f]Alyson[/name_f] Hannigan from [name_m]How[/name_m] I Met Your Mother and American Pie named her first daughter [name_f]Satyana[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
