I would really really like to use this as a first or probably middle name if we have a daughter.
My father and grandfather both share vivian as a middle name and id like to continue the theme even if it skipped a generation but im starting to maybe like the vivienne spelling over the vivian, is this because it’s trendy? What do you think.?
I really like the sound of [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], but much prefer the [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] spelling. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] just looks like it’s trying to hard. You could always compromise and go with [name_f]Viviane[/name_f]!
I MUCH prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] to [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] also has a slightly different pronunciation ([name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is viv-ee-EHN and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] is [name_f]VIV[/name_f]-ee-ehn). I feel as if [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is a much more feminine and lacy version, while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] reminds me of a middle-aged lady in a tai chi class. I like pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Viviane[/name_f].
I prefer the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] spelling. If it is important to continue the [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] spelling, I would go with that. I personally feel either would honor them.
I love the name. I prefer the [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] spelling, I think it’s sharper and classier. Now, if the other name is more tomboy (eg [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]), I do prefer the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] spelling, just to clarify that it’s a girl.
By the way, I loooove [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].
I always end up emphasizing the enne part of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] in my head, not sure if that’s correct. If you’re looking for the [name_f]VIV[/name_f]-ee-in prn then I would go with [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Viviana[/name_f]
Its our top name and we are going with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]! That being said I’m having issues with its popularity, I feel like i see it every where and it’s going to shoot up the charts in the next couple years
I originally wanted [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] for our daughter but my husband wanted a simple, clean spelling. I’ve grown to love “[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]” (its short, smart style suits her), but either way the name is beautiful.
I’ve come to prefer the sleeker [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. While [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is a legit [name_m]French[/name_m] variation, I’ve always found it to be too frilly and over the top. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is beautiful and to the point.
I voted for [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] too. I tend to favour french spelling though.
I love them both and pronounce them both the same with emphasis on first syllable. I think it comes down to which looks best with the middle and surname. A short surname might be better balanced with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and a long surname might look better with [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. If you think she’ll end up called [name_f]Viv[/name_f] or [name_f]Vivie[/name_f] anyway, then it really doesn’t matter. [name_m]Both[/name_m] spellings honor your father and grandfather, and it’s a lovely idea.
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is in our top 3 ATM much prefer the ‘enne’ sound than the ‘anne’ ending x
I love [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] because it feels more romantic, I just love the look of it. Usually I prefer the less frilly spelling options, but not in this case.
