Vivienne vs. Vivian

Looking for opinions on the name [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]/[name_u]Vivian[/name_u], as it’s crept onto our list in recent days. I prefer the [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling while hubby likes the shorter version–in your mind, are they pronounced the same? I say them the same, but maybe I’m getting that wrong! I think [name_f]Vivie[/name_f] makes a cute nickname, too.

Other contenders are [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and maybe [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] to go with our sibset [name_u]Meredith/name_u and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m].

With [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], I prefer the more streamlined [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] spelling. For me, [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] are pronounced the same but the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] has more emphasis on the last syllable. I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] too with [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]. I prefer [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] as a mn and Cececila is a little too frilly.

Thanks for the input, mischa!

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is so dated to me. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the pn. seems dated and I can’t imagine it on a child. The change in emphasis and spelling with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] however seems more fresh and feminine to me, with the same nickname potential as [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].

I pronounce [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] with more emphasis on the last syllable as well. I definitely prefer the [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] spelling. I think it looks so sleek and much more sophisticated.

A slight pronunciation difference for me (though I have never met anyone with this name so this is purely based on seeing the names and I may be alone on this one): -an for me is uhn and -enne for me is just like saying the letter N.
I prefer Vivenne but either way you have a winner with the lovely nn [name_f]Vivie[/name_f].

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the name [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and I think it looks more feminine spelled that way. If you want something less cutesy, I would go with [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].

I like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], especially with [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is a bit too frilly for the sibset, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Also, [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] are pronounced slightly differently. I pronounce [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]VI[/name_f]-vee-in. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is [name_m]French[/name_m], so the emphasis is on the last syllable, vi-vee-EHN.
