[name_f]Oriana[/name_f] is nice (love the meaning), but [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is stunning and I can never vote against it. So it’s easy choice for me. [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is astronomical and musical, and both association are huge bonus to me. [name_m]Add[/name_m] the His Dark Material connection to the mix. I see it as a clear winner. What about [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] as a combo?
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is on my list and I think it stunning. I think it goes well with [name_u]Toby[/name_u]. The downside is it doesn’t have a lot of nickname potential.
Could you not use both? [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] works? And beause [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] doesn’t have a lot of nicknames you could still use [name_u]Rio[/name_u]?
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] make me think of a kind and intelligent girl. Very smart and a bit cheeky with it. Talkative and social. She would have lots of friends.
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f] is more reserved and mysterious. She is a night owl and loves to dance. I imagine her as older than [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] in my head so perhaps she is more mature for her age.
I love the sleek, sophisticated,nstreamlined sound of [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. To my ear, [name_f]Orianna[/name_f] sounds a little clunkier, but then my preference is short and simple and it’s your preference that matters.
I love both of these names, but [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is the winner in my eyes. I feel like it’s such a musical name and I love the astronomical connection as well. I think that with [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] gaining popularity, an [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] would be correcting people often.

Both names are gorgeous, poetic and lyrical - I would have to go with [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. In fact, you just reminded me of how much I love that name. Might need to replace a name on my own list.

Both are wonderful and have a lovely ethereal quality. But [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] gets my vote, it’s such a beautiful and chic name. [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] is nice but it does sound a little clunky to my ears but you do you!
Both are lovely, but I’ve got a huge bias for [name_u]Rio[/name_u] on a girl, so I’ve got to root for it, [name_u]Toby[/name_u] and [name_u]Rio[/name_u] sound really nice together I think and [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] is a really pretty name.

@bretak, I agree [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] might get confused with [name_f]Ariana[/name_f]/[name_f]Aria[/name_f] a bit, but [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] seems to have two pronunciations that are accepted which makes me feel that they’d probably have about the same amount of correcting people, but not so much that either are a deal breaker for us.
@autumnus I’m the same! I absolutely love [name_u]Rio[/name_u] for a girl! That’s actually how I found [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], looking for a full name for [name_u]Rio[/name_u], although fell for [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] in it’s own right immediately.

I love [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] because of [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] pullmans books and when I hear the name i do sort of imagine a similar girl to that character, adventurous, outgoing but also feminine. So love that name choice! But [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] is unusual and so pretty, love the nickname [name_u]Rio[/name_u] as well, very cute!
I would give my opinion but you’ve already decided. I can tell you will be so gutted if you don’t use [name_f]Oriana[/name_f]. Save [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] for a future sister.

@wittyusername103 I think you’re right, I would be gutted if I don’t use [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], although I’ll also be gutted not to use [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], as this is our last baby I unfortunately can’t save one or the other for a future sister. Which is what makes this decision so difficult, either way we have to say goodbye to a name we love knowing we won’t ever get to use it (although at least either way we also end up with a name we love!)
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think you might get any pets in the future? You could name your future pet [name_f]Lyra[/name_f].
We will undoubtedly get another dog at some point down the road, so there is always that possibility!
