For me it was about the familiarity/era of a name, but also about the syllable sounds.
[name_f]Honora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] are mostly comprised of ‘soft-sounding’ consonants H,L, Th. This meant the ‘k’ and ‘tt’ sounds in [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] sounded a bit harsh in comparison. And made my top two picks [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] and [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]. I know many more Johannas than Gemmas, Honoras or Liliths, (though all are familiar), so I thought [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] made the better fit.
Please note that my syllable sound analysis is based on the typical pronunciations where I live, so might differ for your area.
@justbrowsing thank you! I am leaning toward [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], too… but I love the nickname [name_f]May[/name_f] for [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] as an honor name. So it’s good to see what everyone else thinks.
I find [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] a little to trendy with [name_f]Honora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is a little boring, a little too classic, beside them. That leaves [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f]. I think both are lovely! I slightly prefer [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] I think. It shares the same -a ending as [name_f]Honora[/name_f] and has two syllables like [name_f]Lilith[/name_f].
[name_f]Honora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] both feel strong and serious to me, and I think [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] is similar especially with that spelling. I also think it’s pretty.
I voted [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] , but [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] would work well, too. I think [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is pretty, but I don’t think it meshes well style-wise with [name_f]Honora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f] NN [name_u]Jem[/name_u]?
I voted for [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] by the way, because I like that name as a full name best and I love that you and your husband sort of named her when you called her your gem [name_m]Just[/name_m] a wonderful naming story!
But I think [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] NN [name_u]Jem[/name_u]/[name_f]Gem[/name_f] would incorporate that nicely, and since you call your other daughters by nicknames, that totally works as well. [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]; [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Gem[/name_f]. I like it!
I was the one to suggest [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], but I do agree that it is a little hard next to [name_f]Honora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f].
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is just a little flazédah for me.
But then again, who am I. Pick what you love!
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] followed by [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]. Stunning!
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] 100% got my vote
I think [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] works best with [name_f]Honora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]. They all three sound like fine ladies in Victorian [name_f]England[/name_f]. To me, the other three names fall into different categories. I also agree with whoever pointed out the soft sound of those names, which [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] doesn’t have.
With [name_f]Honora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] I vote for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
The more I think about it, the more I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. I think a nn of [name_u]Scottie[/name_u] is so adorable, now that I’ve let it sit. And I loved your suggestion of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] as well. I just wish it flowed better with [name_f]Honora[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilith[/name_f]! My husband loves [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] the best–so since [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is now out I think we will most likely do a middle name of [name_f]May[/name_f], as a nature name and as the honor tie-in that you suggested!
Thank you! I think you put into words exactly how I was feeling about the names so far, and my doubts with [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
Thank you! [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] rotates every hour as my favorite, haha, so I really appreciate your opinion.
That’s a great suggestion. I usually prefer nick names that are obvious, so I worry this is too much of a stretch and no one would call her that. But that way, we would get a really precious nick name that we already call her now (gem).
Thank you! [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] are rotating as my top favorites now I think, but I really want to like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]… sighhh. I appreciate hearing what everyone thinks, so thank you.
I think [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] fits perfectly.
