For a long time I have crushed on the name [name_u]Walker[/name_u], especially as a middle name. However, I use a walker to help me get around stores, my house, etc. Would it be strange if I used [name_u]Walker[/name_u] for a son? What would go through your mind if you met someone who uses a walker that had a son named [name_u]Walker[/name_u] or had the middle name [name_u]Walker[/name_u]? Would you think, “You named your kid after your walking device?” or would it not cross your mind? Maybe I’m worrying over nothing, but it has been something in the back of my mind for awhile now. Would love you all’s opinions.
NOTE: I am several years away from having kids, but I am a huge fan of last names on boys and [name_u]Walker[/name_u] is one of my favorites. I would use it in a heartbeat if my future husband liked it as well.
Thanks everyone!
I personally love surname and occupation names, and [name_u]Walker[/name_u] is perfect to me. I don’t see any difference between [name_u]Walker[/name_u] and, say, [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], etc. I think [name_u]Walker[/name_u] is a great name and matches a lot of the names in your signature, too.
I don’t even think it would register to me at all. [name_u]Walker[/name_u] seems like a well established name to me, and walker as a word has many uses outside of the medical device. There are the walkers for babies, dog walker, etc. Maybe hearing that the name can also be associated with other objects or something like a dog walker isn’t the most reassuring, but honestly, when I hear the name, I think of exactly that. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if I met someone who uses a walker with a son named [name_u]Walker[/name_u], I don’t think my mind would immediately jump to the conclusion that they named their son after the object. If anything, I’d probably think it was a family name, since [name_u]Walker[/name_u] is more common as a last name.
I think it would only cross my mind if I heard someone saying “[name_u]Walker[/name_u], go get me my walker”. [name_m]Even[/name_m] then it would probably just be a “huh” and move on with my life. Middle names are rarely used, so I think it would be even less of an issue.
I agree that it wouldn’t be a big deal as a first name and I don’t think it would be any sort of deal as a middle name either.
In fact, [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_u]Walker[/name_u] is a really pleasing combo to me.
