Hello all! I’m due with another girl this summer and looking for names that are uncommon (but not strange), a bit British (but not stuffy) and that work with my other names.
My other two girls are Ed3n Cl@ire and Imog3ne M@e. I thought [name]Eden[/name] fit my standards at the time, but it turned out to be insanely popular and more along the lines of [name]Addison[/name] than [name]Enid[/name] (which I love and someone should use, as I obviously cannot). We regularly call both by their full names, as well as the nns [name]Edie[/name] and Imme. We also had another daughter (prematurely stillborn) that we named Z3lla J3an. Her name doesn’t really factor into my “rules”- both were family names - but anything ending in -ella is off the table.
So … ready for dream standards? I like vowel names, but don’t have to stick with them. I want one-syllable middle names, and if it ended in an -e like the other two, even better. ([name]Rose[/name], [name]Eve[/name], [name]June[/name], etc.) I’d prefer if the name started and ended with a different letter than my other two (no E or I names, no -n or -e endings). Again, this is me being picky. When baby actually comes, I’m much more open, so shoot out any names that you want. Imog3ne was a game-time decision, so anything is possible.
Here are a few that I’m liking:
[name]Felicity[/name] (nn ideas?)
[name]Olympia[/name] (nn [name]Olly[/name])
[name]Allegra[/name] (nn [name]Ally[/name]?)
[name]Harriet[/name] (nn [name]Hattie[/name])
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] (too popular/well-known?)
Sorry for the length and thanks in advance for your help. I feel like I’ve heard/know every name out there and nothing is sticking!
You have some great suggestions, so I won’t add any more right now.
[name]Felicity[/name] (nn ideas?) -I love this name! My favorite n.n.'s are Flicka and Lissy
[name]Olympia[/name] (nn [name]Olly[/name]) -I little stuffy but I like it
[name]Allegra[/name] (nn [name]Ally[/name]?) -The [name]Ally[/name] n.n. ruins this name for me
[name]Harriet[/name] (nn [name]Hattie[/name]) -[name]LOVE[/name] this for you
[name]Daphne[/name] -same as above, [name]LOVE[/name] this
[name]Violet[/name] (too popular/well-known?) -[name]Way[/name] too well known I think
Thanks for all the suggestions and insights. You are clearly professional baby namers as almost every name meets my criteria. Now, to find the one that “clicks.” Actually, we plan on taking a list of 5-10 names, ranking them and then picking the one that comes first on both our lists. I’ll keep you posted.
I love your girls names, and I’m so sorry about [name]Zella[/name]. I can not imagine how devistated you must have been.
[name]Felicity[/name] - What about Fliss? Lissy/[name]Lissa[/name]? [name]Fee[/name]?
[name]Olympia[/name] - I’m not really keen on [name]Olympia[/name]. I’d love to see it on somebody else’s child though! It’s very spunky.
[name]Allegra[/name] - I love [name]Allegra[/name], but I really dislike [name]Ally[/name].
[name]Harriet[/name] - [name]Harriet[/name] is very pretty. I know a lovely little girl named [name]Harriet[/name] who goes by [name]Hettie[/name], but [name]Hattie[/name] is just as sweet.
[name]Daphne[/name] - Gorgeous! My favourite out of your list.
[name]Violet[/name] - I adore [name]Violet[/name], but I agree it’s becoming very well known.
