Wanting critiques of my name list for 3rd child

My kids are [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Luke[/name_m] ([name_u]Freddy[/name_u]) and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Tilly[/name_f]). We are expecting our third, a boy, in a few months. I’m feeling rather blah about names this time around. NB we never call my son [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] only [name_u]Freddy[/name_u].

Here’s our list with my concerns listed about each one. Middle name will be a traditional name most likely [name_u]James[/name_u].

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] - [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is my first choice, I’m mostly worried that it doesn’t “fit” with [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
[name_u]Clancy[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] - too Australian (with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f])
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m] ____ - outlier, I feel neutral about this one but I like [name_m]Josh[/name_m].

We also like [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] but have crossed it off recently because we’ve met a few girls and we aren’t looking at unisex names.

Or favourite girl names are [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I think I’m drawn to names that have a D sound.

What would you choose? [name_m]New[/name_m] ideas?

I think [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] absolutely fits and I love it! Perhaps it may seem a little more modern because it’s a little more popular, but I think of it as an older English name/surname and it reminds me of the explorer [name_u]Hudson[/name_u].

Otherwise:
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m] ([name_m]Harry[/name_m] creates a pattern with [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], which you may or may not like).
[name_m]Lincoln[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m]

I think [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] fits great with your other children. [name_u]Freddy[/name_u], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] sound like a wonderful sibset. If you’re worried that the other two have nicknames ending in y, I don’t think that’s a problem. I actually think it kind of refreshing that they’re not all matchy like that! The third sibling in my family also has a name that breaks tradition with the first two, and I’ve actually found that’s pretty common. The D sounds in all the names is a subtle connection, but ties them together and makes their names sound lyrical together. It’s lovely!

For girls, I really like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. I hear the name [name_f]Adele[/name_f] a lot due to the singer. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] just feels sweet, classic, and fresh (because I hear [name_f]Adele[/name_f] often, it doesn’t feel as refreshing). Also, it’s difficult to say “[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f]” as there are three A sounds in a row. Since [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] starts with an L, it breaks it up a bit and is easier to say.

Thanks katyi and cashmeresocks for replying. It’s reassuring to see that [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb to you both. I am/was concerned it was too trendy/modern for my other kids names. I have read the vintage etc lists a thousand times and nothing stands out. Anything that does eg [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] & [name_m]William[/name_m] are already used by close friends or my hubby has vetoed them.

[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] and [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] are both names I like but are used by close friends. I wouldn’t consider them in my situation.

I hadn’t considered the [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] tongue twister. Something to think about if we do ever go for no.4

I think [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] goes well with [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. Would you use a nickname for him though? and what would that be?

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] makes me think of these names:
[name_m]Judson[/name_m]
[name_m]Edison[/name_m]
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m]
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Ludovic[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]Chandler[/name_u]
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
[name_m]Huxley[/name_m] or perhaps as nn for [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]?
[name_m]Alasdair[/name_m]
[name_u]Sander[/name_u]

Good luck!

I think [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is nice w/ [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]

Maybe…

[name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Lemuel[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
Clemson [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Madigan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]

I do think [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is more modern/trendy than the other names but it’s not totally out-there. I’m not familiar with the Australian [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] association.

Other suggestions…

[name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Bernard[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] (but [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] and [name_m]Eddie[/name_m])
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Ingram[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Philip[/name_m]
[name_m]Roderick[/name_m] (too close to [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]?)
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_u]Toby[/name_u]

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] fits perfectly in my opinion!

I like both [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], but I like [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] much more with [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]–it just seems to fit better for me. I do like [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] a lot, but if you’re Australian (which it seems like you’re indicating you are)–I’ve heard that Australia has a huge nicknaming culture, and I’m not sure I’d want my [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] shortened to “Hud” or “[name_u]Sonny[/name_u]”, but maybe that’s just me haha. It is a great name, though, and I can see it working with [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], although not as easily as [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] or [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], to be sure. (For what it’s worth, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] your girls’ choices, and I think [name_f]Adele[/name_f] or [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] would work seamlessly with [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]! Although I’m biased–[name_f]Adele[/name_f] is one of my absolute favorite names ever, and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]'s not far behind!)

A few other ideas to go with [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]:

[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (or just [name_u]Theo[/name_u]?)
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m] (although this is probably too close to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]?)
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_u]Austen[/name_u]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u]
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]
[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]

Good luck!
