What are your overall thoughts on the name [name_m]Ward[/name_m]? We are really struggling to name baby number 5, our 4th boy. I keep seeing [name_m]Ward[/name_m], and I’m not sure what to think. Sometimes I really like it, sometimes I think it’s too last name-y. We like underused vintage for the most part. Middle name will probably be [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. If you have any suggestions, please share. Thanks!
I have the same conundrum with it as you do! Lol. [name_m]Ward[/name_m] is somewhat a guilty-pleasure name for me. I have a bit of a twang in my accent that makes me say this a little funny, but I still like it as a name!
I feel like it gives off a friendly, albeit very hipster, vibe. If I met a [name_m]Ward[/name_m], I’d likely think that it was a family name or perhaps the mother’s maiden name, but wouldn’t be surprised if it was just a name the parents liked
I’m not a huge fan of the flow of [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m], but that’s just me! It isn’t a big deal.
If you are still unsure about [name_m]Ward[/name_m], then maybe some similar names would be of interest to you? Yard and [name_m]Walden[/name_m] are ones that come to mind.
[name_m]Ward[/name_m] is 100% Leave It To Beaver in my mind. Kind of old-man that isn’t really coming back, at least in my opinion. There is nothing inherently wrong with [name_m]Ward[/name_m], though. It’s perfectly respectable.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Warren[/name_m]? [name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] sounds nice, too.
Personally, I’m not a fan. It makes me think of “wart.” I like emmajune’s suggestion of [name_m]Warren[/name_m].
A few other ideas just off the top of my head:
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_m]Fred[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Bernard[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_u]Stanley[/name_u]
I like [name_m]Ward[/name_m] a lot. I’m not sure I could actually name my son this for some reason, but we are watching a show right now with a main character named [name_m]Ward[/name_m], and I decided it’s a really nice, solid name. I think it just doesn’t go with our son’s name or this one might be on my list!
I think [name_m]Ward[/name_m] is a handsome name. I picture a kind, easy-going, friendly child/man. I like [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
I think of a hospital ward when I see the name so for me it’s not usable. A psych ward or a cancer ward etc. are not the best associations. Maybe as a nickname if you really love it.
As an Agents of Shield fan, I associate [name_m]Ward[/name_m] with [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Ward[/name_m], so I personally wouldn’t be able to use it. I’m also not big on the name itself, and [name_m]Ward[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] doesn’t flow very well imo. I think the suggestion of [name_m]Warren[/name_m] would work well, though, and [name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] has a much better flow to me.
I like it a lot. [name_m]Ward[/name_m] sounds handsome and smart. A rare but known name. I like the suggestion of [name_m]Warren[/name_m] too, as it may flow a bit better with [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
I say it like “word” so I’m on the fence about it. It has numerous meanings, of which I only like some so the other meanings put me off of it.
What about [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_m]Warden[/name_m]?
I love [name_m]Ward[/name_m] a lot. If you think it can’t stand on its on how about [name_u]Howard[/name_u] or [name_m]Willard[/name_m] to balance it out. Frankly I like it on its own.
I don’t love [name_m]Ward[/name_m] for some reason. Could you use [name_m]Ford[/name_m] instead? For some reason that’s warmer to me.
If you loved it, I’d say use it. Since you’re unsure, maybe it would be best to use it as a nickname. I’ve only heard it as a nn for [name_m]Edward[/name_m], but if that’s too popular, you might like [name_u]Howard[/name_u], Siward, [name_m]Wardell[/name_m] or [name_m]Hayward[/name_m]. Most of those are still surname-y, but they might feel less like word-names.
ETA: I just noticed Howard was suggested above. Sorry for the repeat
