Warming up to Pierce..need final thoughts!

We have gone through so many names for our second son due this [name_f]Spring[/name_f] and we always come back to the name [name_m]Pierce[/name_m]! We love it for its masculine vibe and infrequent use but I havent been able to commit to it yet because of a few potential issues I see… Maybe some of you “berries” can help put my mind at ease or possibly make me go in another direction.

  1. Does it work with our first son’s name, [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]? We were trying to pick something more unique this time but still classic and I think [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] fits but I’d love to hear outside opinions.

  2. Our last name sounds like [name_m]Brenner[/name_m] so I worry about our [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] being constantly compared to the actor, [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Brosnan[/name_m] due to both surnames starting with “Br”

  3. The middle name is tricky. We wanted to use [name_m]Allen[/name_m] (family name) but I’m not convinced it sounds right. Other options for family names are [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_u]Coley[/name_u], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], or [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]…we have a lot of "A"s I guess!

  4. Last but not least, as much as I love the name, I feel like its so strong/harsh for a little baby/kid…will I change once its on my child? I feel like its a great name to grow into but I want to enjoy saying it and feel as warm about this choice as I do about [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. This is probably the biggest reason why we haven’t committed yet and why I keep searching for other names even though I always come back to [name_m]Pierce[/name_m].

What do you think?

  1. Does it work with our first son’s name, [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]? We were trying to pick something more unique this time but still classic and I think [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] fits but I’d love to hear outside opinions. - [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] is a form of [name_m]Peter[/name_m] which is a Biblical name like [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] so I don’t find it so different that it’s really mismatched.

  2. Our last name sounds like [name_m]Brenner[/name_m] so I worry about our [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] being constantly compared to the actor, [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Brosnan[/name_m] due to both surnames starting with “Br” - [name_m]Brosnan[/name_m] and [name_m]Brenner[/name_m] sound different even though they both begin with “Br”. [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] sounds kind of cool with your last name.

- THE MOST important names for flow are the first and last names because we use them most in real life. Family signifance trumps flow every time! [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] isn’t ideal but that’s ok because you’re honouring family.

- Parents should be thinking about naming an ADULT not a child because we spend most of our lives in adulthood. Children don’t remain young for very long. You can call him “[name_m]Pip[/name_m]” or [name_m]Pete[/name_m]" or something else when he’s young if you find [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] too strong at first.

Thanks for the feedback! What kind of boy/person do you picture when you think of [name_m]Pierce[/name_m]? I don’t even know what category it falls under, I just know I am drawn to the sound for some reason! [name_f]My[/name_f] first son [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] is a curly blonde haired brown eyed ball of energy…wish I knew what baby brother was going to be like!

I see [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] as a smiley little boy who loves soccer and trucks and airplanes. He has curly, wild light brown with streaks of blonde hair. He’s not into army / battle that sort of thing that some boys are into. He’s a bit artsy and creative, maybe he even loves to dance. High School [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] is the coolest guy around. He is cool, confident and collected. He’s not a loud mouth per say, but he has witty ideas and is well liked. Adult [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] works in a business as a senior employee. He has straight dark hair, a bit of a scruffy beard and has that crisp and clean but rugged look.

Obviously, my two [name_m]Pierce[/name_m]'s look entirely different, but that’s ok. It just shows the versatility of the name. I agree with pp about [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] and [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Brenner[/name_m]. [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] [name_m]Brenner[/name_m] is a cool name.

but what about [name_m]Piers[/name_m]? It has a softer sound and look yet is quite similar.

Thank you for this response, it helped to validate my thoughts because I picture the same kid/adult as you but could never describe as well. Its good to know I’m not the only one who thinks its a nice name! [name_m]Just[/name_m] out of curiosity, I’d love to know your thoughts on [name_u]Grady[/name_u] because that is my husband’s favorite and is our #2 after [name_m]Pierce[/name_m]. Thanks again…I think we might have a winner now:)

I think [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] is a great choice. It’s strong and masculine but not overbearing on a child either. What [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] said about spending most of our lives as adults is a great point, and I agree also that [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Brenner[/name_m] sounds great!

I really do appreciate flow, but I use my children’s middle names a lot. Most people do really just use the first and last so I wouldn’t make this point a stresser for yourselves. Out of your choice, I think I prefer [name_m]Pierce[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] [name_m]Brenner[/name_m] the best and I think it has great flow for what it’s worth!
