[name]Hi[/name]! I’m new to this website, a fellow pregnant mother in my coffee group was chatting away about this site and thought id join up especially given my news.
My husband and i are very happy and content with our 4 beautiful children, we weren’t TTC a number 5 as our house is a little hectic right now, Our eldest will be 5 in [name]December[/name], we have twins who turn 3 in august and our youngest only turned 1 in [name]April[/name]… but somehow, (rather magically actually!) i ended up pregnant and i am now at 23 weeks, due in october.
My question to all your posters is more about this idea of naming rules/guidelines.
We have two boys and two girls and the girls both have a similarity in their names and im wondering if i should carry it on/kind of have to (if #5 is a girl)
[name]One[/name] of the twin’s has the middle name [name]Violet[/name]
Our youngest child we decided to give her the first name [name]Lila[/name], depending on what book or website you are reading [name]Lila[/name] can mean a few differing things but some places will say that [name]Lila[/name] means [name]Lilac[/name].
So I know that one is a middle name and one is a first name but there is a colour connection but they also have the purple-ish connection.
If #5 was to be a girl do you posters think that its only fair to give her a colour related name, either FN or MN or am i being overly thoughtful about this?
Congratulations! My two cents on giving your baby a color name, if she’s a girl, would be that it’d be cute, but don’t feel pressured to do it. I don’t think the connection is obvious enough to make a third girl feel left out if she doesn’t get a color name. If you find one you love, though, I think it would be sweet.
Best wishes!
I personally don’t think it matters at all. If you had two daughters and their first names were [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Lilac[/name], I would say the next one should go along with the theme. But for the first daughter it’s her middle name and for the second it isn’t even the actual flower, but a name that some think is connected to it. I say if you want to make it a theme, go for it, but it isn’t necessary at all.
I think it’s only a big deal if you make a big deal. Especially in the middle — Most people that your children come into contact with won’t make that connection. On the other hand, it is a pretty cool connection for them to share as they grow (I’m usually not a fan of theme up front, but the middle is nice and anything can go there, at least in my opinion). I think you’ve got a few ways to go with this theme which is good for you because theme can sometimes get limiting. If this next child is a girl, you could go with – purple, color, flower, or any combination of the three. For some suggestions (because I love making them):
Purple Flowers -
Allium
Alyssum – maybe could stretch to [name]Alyssa[/name]
Amaranth
[name]Aster[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name] (flower)
Delphinium - maybe could stretch to [name]Delphine[/name] or [name]Delfina[/name]
[name]Heather[/name]
[name]Hyacinth[/name]
Larkspur
[name]Ianthe[/name]
[name]Iolanthe[/name]
[name]Iole[/name]
[name]Ione[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Jasmine[/name] (I know most are white, but there are purple ones too)
[name]Lavender[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Orchid[/name]
[name]Pansy[/name]
[name]Petunia[/name]
[name]Saffron[/name] (crocus)
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Yolanda[/name]
[name]Wisteria[/name]
(I didn’t include [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Viola[/name] for obvious reasons)
Flowers -
[name]Acacia[/name]
[name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Angelica[/name]
[name]Azalea[/name]
[name]Blossom[/name]
[name]Calla[/name] ([name]Lily[/name])
[name]Camellia[/name]
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Fern[/name]
[name]Fleur[/name]
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Holly[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Margarita[/name] (= [name]Daisy[/name])
[name]Marigold[/name]
Oleander (I believe the purple one is called [name]Calypso[/name] Oleander)
[name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Primrose[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name] / [name]Rosalia[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] (= [name]Lily[/name])
[name]Veronica[/name] ([name]Flower[/name])
[name]Zinnia[/name]
Also, [name]Malina[/name] might work too (Polish - “raspberry” which is a purplish color)
What’s nice about this sort of theme is that a choice like [name]Rosalie[/name], for example, would make the connection between the girls, but not be so evident to everyone who meets _____ [name]Violet[/name], [name]Lila[/name]______, and _____ [name]Rosalie[/name].
[name]Don[/name]'t let your name choice be based on the boundaries of a theme! It’s not an obvious theme, so she won’t feel left out. [name]Just[/name] choose a name you and your husband love!
Hey guys,
Really appreciate all the feedback. You all seem to be on the same page. Its not a big deal unless i make it one! I think maybe its me being pregnant and being overly critical and just generally over thinking stuff.
I just have to let it go!
teachermama thank you for all those suggestions, now that the ‘pressure’ isnt there i think i could genuinely like one of those ideas for a possible middle name. Kind of all hypothetical though because i dont yet know the gender!
I understand the pressure. [name]Just[/name] choose the name you would like to have yourself. We all have many factors in mind when we choose a name. Think of this question if you have a name for your baby as if you have that name, is this the name you would want to represent you? If so, you can feel confident that you’re giving your child the best birthday present possible, one that will last a lifetime.
