Waverly vs. Clover...I'm all over the place

I am beginning to like [name]Clover[/name] and [name]Waverly[/name] (yes, two very different names). I like [name]Clover[/name] because we have a son named [name]Kai[/name], and those seem like they’d go well together. I really like nature-y names. I like [name]Waverly[/name] because it sounds sophisticated, but it’s hardly popular (ONLY 64 babies were born with that name in 2009!!!)

[name]Do[/name] you see [name]Clover[/name] translating into a good adult name? What is your opinion of [name]Waverly[/name] (we live in Hawai’i, I really like the “wave” translation and [name]Kai[/name]'s name means ocean, so I guess they go together?)

Our last name is [name]Kirsten[/name].

[name]Clover[/name] [name]Kirsten[/name]
[name]Waverly[/name] [name]Kirsten[/name]

Thanks!!!

I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Waverly[/name]! I’ve never met anyone with that name and it’s just so cool! I think [name]Kai[/name] and [name]Waverly[/name] as siblings are totally awesome. I much prefer that to [name]Kai[/name] and [name]Clover[/name], actually.

I like [name]Clover[/name] a lot as a middle name, [name]Waverly[/name] [name]Clover[/name] would be really sweet. I know a lot of berries disagree, but I don’t think [name]Clover[/name] is substantial enough for a first name. I know that I would not like to be a 36-year-old [name]Clover[/name].

I prefer [name]Waverly[/name] too. It sounds great with [name]Kai[/name].

And I like [name]Clover[/name] in theory, but I can’t picture an adult answering to the name. You could always go with a name like [name]Chloe[/name] or [name]Catherine[/name] and nickname her [name]Clover[/name], that way she’ll have options when she gets older.

Good luck!

I’m on the [name]Waverly[/name] side as well. [name]Clover[/name] reminds me of “cleaver” and garlic. It’s not a pleasant-sounding name to me at all and, like the previous posters, I have a tough time imagining a [name]Clover[/name] going to [name]Harvard[/name] [name]Law[/name] or becoming a doctor. It’s just not a name that fits that type of person. [name]Waverly[/name], I feel, is a little more versatile. It can be a hippie name or the name of a lawyer or businesswoman.

I’m not sure, because [name]Clover[/name] [name]Kirsten[/name] and [name]Kai[/name] [name]Kirsten[/name] is just…too much alliteration. I do [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Clover[/name], though. And my son watches a show on Disney [name]Channel[/name] called Wizards of [name]Waverly[/name] Place. It’s about these wizards that work in [name]Waverly[/name] Sub Shop or something. So whenever I hear [name]Waverly[/name] I think of wizards. But it is a nice name! Hard descision…you seem to like names with a V in the middle. [name]Ever[/name] consider [name]Ivy[/name]?

Here’s another vote for [name]Waverly[/name].

[name]Clover[/name] definitely gets my vote! [name]Waverly[/name] is so awkward sounding and doesn’t seem like first name material. [name]Clover[/name] has a very pretty sound and elegance about it. I can see it aging beautifully.

Either works pretty well. I agree with pp that it is a lot of alliteration; that’s less a deal-breaker for me than it is for others, and I don’t know how often you’ll going around saying both of their full names together.

I agree that [name]Clover[/name] might be better as a nickname, it makes me think of lots of things like cover, lover, clove cigarettes, over, cows chewing clover, lucky clover. None of those is actually particularly bad or anything, but it does make it seem more and more like a word and less like a name. [name]Chloe[/name] means “green shoot”, so it’s still a nature name, although it might be way more popular than you want.

[name]Waverly[/name] is very pretty, but I also thought of Wizards of [name]Waverly[/name] place, and somehow it makes me think of crackers, maybe there is a brand of crackers with this name or something similar? Neither is awful, and I mean, I love the boys’ name [name]Graham[/name], which is also a cracker.

With someone named [name]Waverly[/name] with your last name I can imagine from time to time people will look at her name written and assume the last name came first by accident, and call her [name]Kirsten[/name] [name]Waverly[/name].

In the end, either could work, I prefer [name]Waverly[/name] slightly.

You want something nature-y, and maybe especially associated with the ocean, if you are interested (and my apologies if not) here are a few more I can particularly see with [name]Kai[/name] and your last name:

[name]Ahava[/name] - Hebrew name referring to water (has a v in the middle : D)
[name]Maren[/name] - Danish take on [name]Marina[/name]. [name]Kai[/name] is used in many languages including the Scandi ones, so this fits.
[name]Marina[/name] - Latin for of the sea
[name]Meredith[/name] - Welsh for sea lord, hits a bit of the last-namish feeling of [name]Waverly[/name]
Moana - (claims the website) Hawaiian for sea. Could go with spelling [name]Mona[/name], too?
[name]Naida[/name] - Russian via Greek, water nymph
[name]Nereida[/name] - Latin via Greek, water nymph
[name]Nerida[/name] - also gets listings for Aboriginal Australian - water lily
[name]Nerissa[/name] - Shakespearean, alluding to water nymphs
[name]Palasha[/name] - Russian for Latin [name]Pelagia[/name], the sea
Pamuya - Hop for clear water
[name]Romy[/name] - contracted from [name]Rosemary[/name], supposedly “dew of the sea”
[name]Tallulah[/name] - Choctaw for jumping water
Tasi - Chamoru for his/her sea

I’m sure there are plenty more out there. Best wishes!

I vote [name]Clover[/name]! It was on my list 3 years ago when I had my daughter. It lost out to [name]Willow[/name] but I’m expecting another girl in a couple months and that is still on my list. I did hear of 1 baby around here with that name.

[name]Waverly[/name]! I just can’t take [name]Clover[/name] seriously as a fn.
