Ways to combine/use Antoinette and Mildred?

I am due with a girl (our first) in [name]January[/name] and am trying to think of a way to use my two grandmother’s names. I don’t really like the name [name]Mildred[/name], but I’d like to find some way to maybe use parts of it or combine it with [name]Antoinette[/name] in some way. [name]One[/name] thought is [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name], but I have a more distant relative who used [name]Emilia[/name] (with that spelling) and I fear people might think I’m copying them (I’m not- I thought of using it years ago, but I’m afraid of what people will think). Any creative thoughts or ideas?? Thanks in advance!

I’m afraid I can’t help much, but I’m in the same boat on [name]Mildred[/name]. It’s DH’s grandmother’s name, and while I’d love to honor her, I can’t quite wrap my head around [name]Mildred[/name]. If considered [name]Millicent[/name] and calling her [name]Millie[/name], but for you [name]Millicent[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name] is a bit of a mouthful. Good luck!

Using part of [name]Mildred[/name]-
[name]Camila[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]
Using a name with the same meaning-
[name]Gabriella[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
Combining [name]Mildred[/name] and [name]Antoinette[/name]-
[name]Milana[/name]- meaning favored (I love this one!)

[name]Antoinette[/name] and [name]Mildred[/name], hmm… the “[name]Mil[/name]” part of [name]Mildred[/name] is obviously most usable, along with the “An” part of [name]Antoinette[/name]. I would use [name]Millie[/name] or [name]Mila[/name] for [name]Mildred[/name] and [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Anna[/name] for [name]Antoinette[/name]. Maybe even [name]Etta[/name]?

[name]Camilla[/name] [name]Anne[/name]?
[name]Romilly[/name] [name]Anna[/name]?
I like the suggestion of [name]Milana[/name] to sort of combine both the names. You could use [name]Amelia[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name] as a nod to both the names but it’s a bit of a stretch and may be a bit close to the name used by your cousin.

[name]Mila[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name] is very pretty. And [name]Nettie[/name] is a very cute nickname for [name]Antoinette[/name]. Also, [name]Minette[/name] could be a pretty middle name and it’s sort of a smoosh of the two.

I really like the suggestions of [name]Milana[/name] and [name]Minette[/name]. They are both really beautiful names! Best wishes to you!

[name]Melisande[/name]?

Also: [name]Antonia[/name] [name]Camille[/name], [name]Camille[/name] [name]Antonia[/name].

What about just using [name]Millie[/name] on it’s own? I think it can definitely be a stand-alone name (and a great one at that!) [name]Millie[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name] is beautiful.

[name]Antionette[/name] is one of my middle names

I like [name]Mila[/name] [name]Antionette[/name] or [name]Minette[/name] (I love this one, very pretty!)

Sorry but I have to disagree on Minette, it’s not really a name for people though lots of people call their cats Minette because it means pussy as in pussy cat, however, in France if one says “faire minette” it implies they like performing cunnilingus, it is sometimes used as a nn for good looking girls again that has somewhat of a sexual connotation so basically it’s not taken seriously as a name and people would definitely do a double take if they heard it there.

I know I contest this one often on the boards but that’s because imo it’s important for a person considering it to be fully aware of the meaning in the country of it’s origin before they make their decision. I would compare it to a French person naming their child “a**” because they think it sounds nice and is technically an animal name but as most of us know “a**” is not used in a respectable way in the states.

I hope this doesn’t offend anyone.

Sorry OP I meant to tell you I think [name]Emilia[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name] is a great and very usable choice! Maybe you would also like [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name]?

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I like [name]Mila[/name], although part of me wishes it was pronounced my-la instead of mee-la (and changing the spelling would make it too far from [name]Mildred[/name] I think). I do like it though so we’ll put it on the list! [name]Milana[/name]/[name]Milena[/name] is another one to consider. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Emmeline[/name], but alas, it rhymes with our last name so that won’t work :(. What do you guys think about using [name]Emilia[/name]? It’s a second or third cousin who used the name and we see them about once a year (though other members of my closer family see them more often). I’m a little afraid our baby will be known as “[name]Emilia[/name] #2” and people will think we copied them even though we didn’t. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks so much again- you guys are so creative!

There is a form of [name]Mildred[/name] I’ve come across before that I liked-- Mildree. I checked it up in a book and saw other forms include Mildrie, Mildri.

The thing about honouring 2 grandmothers is 1 might ask why the baby only got half her name whereas baby’s middle has her other grandmother’s full name… It’s for this reason I would consider something as close to [name]Mildred[/name] as possible… even though personally, [name]Mila[/name] [name]Antoinette[/name] makes me swoon.

If you can switch the names around, [name]Antoinette[/name] [name]Mildred[/name]… isn’t so bad. Or [name]Antoinette[/name] Mildree.

You could use [name]Milica[/name] instead of [name]Mildred[/name]. [name]Milica[/name] [name]Antionette[/name] is pretty.

I like Milou, but mainly as a nickname.
Using [name]Emilia[/name] is a great idea in my opinion, if it’s a cousin you don’t see a lot, I don’t think it’s a big problem.
I love the name [name]Antoinette[/name], very beautiful and definitely underused.

Or [name]Camilla[/name] [name]Antionette[/name] and [name]Millie[/name] or [name]Toni[/name] for a NN. [name]Camilla[/name] had the same feel as [name]Emilia[/name]
