[name]Hi[/name], my husband and I are expecting our fifth and final child, a girl, and would love some advice! We are completely set on naming our daughter [name]Betty[/name]. It is his absolute favorite name in the world and I love it, too. But we would really prefer using it as a nickname, rather than a full name. Besides [name]Elizabeth[/name], are there any other ways to get to [name]Betty[/name]? Thanks so much!
We are undecided on a middle name, but it will start with a “[name]Ca[/name]”, as the rest of our children’s do – we both have ‘[name]Ca[/name]-’ first names and it is our little tradition. Big brothers are [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Cade[/name] ([name]Ben[/name]), [name]Joslin[/name] [name]Caius[/name] and [name]James[/name] [name]Cassian[/name]. Big sister is [name]Whitney[/name] [name]Camille[/name].
Again, thank you!
[name]Casey[/name], [name]Cam[/name], [name]Ben[/name], [name]Joslin[/name], [name]James[/name] and [name]Whitney[/name]
I can’t really think of any name that isn’t related to [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Bethany[/name]. [name]Bettina[/name] is a diminutive of [name]Elisabeth[/name] that could work. Middle names:
[name]Hi[/name]! I love [name]Betty[/name]! Aside from [name]Elizabeth[/name] as a [name]Betty[/name] source, I think that any [name]Elizabeth[/name] variation could work, such as [name]Eliza[/name] or even [name]Elise[/name]. ([name]Elizabeth[/name] is definitely the most obvious source, though.)
Oh! There’s also [name]Bette[/name], as well as names containing [name]BET[/name], such as [name]Bethany[/name] or Annabeth.
Wow, you’re all fast, thank you! I love [name]Bethany[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatrix[/name] (not sure which spelling), [name]Bette[/name] and Annabeth! Thank you all so much… oh, decisions decisions!
[name]Hi[/name] again everyone! I was wondering if you wonderful ladies (and perhaps gentleman!) could give us some input on our combinations. We think we have our name choices narrowed down to [name]Bethany[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Beatrice[/name] (still not sure which), [name]Bette[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] ” we absolutely loved Annabeth, but we have a sister-in-law named [name]Annalise[/name] and a niece named for her: [name]Annabel[/name]. [name]SIL[/name] goes by [name]Anna[/name], niece goes by [name]Bella[/name] and our little girl will be [name]Betty[/name], but I”m afraid they are still too close. So this is what we have in mind, instead:
I”m a little curious as to what everyone thinks sounds better with our other children”s names. Until I started frequenting name websites in the past year or two, I never really knew a sibling set was supposed to ”sound” a different way and I”m not sure if we have followed the rules or not. [name]Benjamin[/name] was simply my favorite name in the world, [name]Whitney[/name] and [name]James[/name] are the names of my husband”s mom and dad and [name]Joslin[/name] is his great-grandfather. Like I mentioned before, [name]Betty[/name] is [name]Cam[/name]”s favorite name, largely due to the song [name]Black[/name] [name]Betty[/name]” it”s his favorite, but that”s another story entirely and I”m rambling! I just hope their names all ”sound” good together, all this talk of sibsets has me so nervous now!
I”m also nervous that if we go with a ”B” name, [name]Whitney[/name] will look so left out. Our names both start with ”C”, two of our sons” names start with ”J” and the other ”B”. We will have two of every letter but her” oh, I”m just getting myself into a tizzy now!
My favorite [name]Bethany[/name] combo is [name]Bethany[/name] [name]Cate[/name]. I love the name [name]Catherine[/name], but [name]Bethany[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] has a lot of “th” sounds. Oh! I also like [name]Bethany[/name] [name]Caroline[/name], but I love the flow of [name]Bethany[/name] [name]Cate[/name] more. [name]Bethany[/name] has a modern feel to me like [name]Whitney[/name], and I can also see it with your boys’ names.
I love [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name], and while I can see [name]Beatrice[/name] with your boys’ names, I can better see some of the other names with [name]Whitney[/name]. With [name]Beatrix[/name], I’d personally avoid middles with a hard K sound, and with [name]Beatrice[/name], I’d avoid [name]Caroline[/name], because the ss ending sound of [name]Beatrice[/name] attaches to the “Care” sound from [name]Caroline[/name], sounding like the word “scare” when I say the combo out loud.
Of your [name]Bette[/name] combos, I really, really love [name]Bette[/name] [name]Caroline[/name].
Yea! [name]Elizabeth[/name] is on your list!!! I love [name]Elizabeth[/name], nn [name]Betty[/name], and think that [name]Elizabeth[/name] is wonderful with your children’s names. My favorites are [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Cate[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Caroline[/name].
I’m voting for [name]Elizabeth[/name]! I love how it’s a timeless classic, and I think it’s perfect with [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Joslin[/name], and [name]Whitney[/name]. (Plus, her given name won’t begin with a B, preventing [name]Whitney[/name] from missing out of the double initials theme of BB/JJ.)
I absolutely love the [name]Betty[/name] nicknakme!
I think sometimes people get carried away with sibsets. Your names are all good. I think the point is not to have a two girls named [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] for example.
[name]Hi[/name] again, berries! First off, I would like to thank you all again for your continued support and ideas. Our entire family appreciates it so much, I cannot put into words. Since [name]Betty[/name] will be our last little baby, I am sure you can imagine just how special to us this is
That being said, I think we are going to go with [name]Elizabeth[/name]. My hubby and I came here looking for an alternative way to get to [name]Betty[/name] without using it, but in the end it looks like it was probably the choice for us all along. We”re still not quite decided on a middle name, but [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Cate[/name] is definitely a forerunner I realize that, with nicknames in use, we still run into the BB/JJ/W problem, but that”s ok. I”m determined not to let it bother me much. [name]Whit[/name] is her daddy”s spoiled little princess and I don”t think she ever runs the chance of feeling left out And for all we know, [name]Betty[/name] may very well hate her nickname and pick one of the other hundreds of [name]Elizabeth[/name] possibilities instead” but I hope not!
Anyway, I”m rambling again. I seem to have a tendency to do that here, I apologize and I sincerely hope I”m not annoying anyone!
Here are the [name]Elizabeth[/name] combos that we”re presently toying around with
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Cara[/name]: A suggestion of my husband. I”m not too wild about it, but it”s growing on me.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carina[/name]: We like this one for its meaning, ”beloved”.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carys[/name]: Another one we like for its meaning, ”love”.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Casey[/name]: Hubby pitched this one, for my own name. I”ve never been super crazy about my name, to be honest.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Cate[/name]: This just sounds so old-fashioned and beautiful, I like it.
Our surname is long, French and a bit difficult to pronounce, so I think a shorter middle name (like we did with [name]Benjamin[/name]: [name]Cade[/name]) is probably best.
[name]Hi[/name]! You’re so sweet, and I don’t think you ramble at all! I love your posts! (And even if you did ramble, it wouldn’t be a big deal. Now that I think about it, I ramble all time, and am doing it now!)
I love [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Cate[/name], and I honestly wouldn’t worry about the intials issue. (And by the way, I thought of you tonight, because I was watching [name]Betty[/name] White on [name]Larry[/name] [name]King[/name]! It’s because of her that I starting loving the name [name]Betty[/name]. [name]Every[/name] [name]Betty[/name] of whom I know is charming.)
So, I’m voting for [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Cate[/name], but I’ll put [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carys[/name] in a close second. Oh! I just realized how similar [name]Cate[/name] and [name]Cade[/name] are, so I’ll go with [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carys[/name]. (If [name]Cate[/name] isn’t too close to [name]Cade[/name] for you, I do love [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Cate[/name]!) I think all of your options are great, though!
[name]Hi[/name] [name]Jill[/name]! Goodness, you are so sweet, thank you so very much for your always super-kind words I had no idea [name]Betty[/name] White was on [name]Larry[/name] [name]King[/name]! I, too, am a huge fan of hers. She seems so down-to-earth and charming, qualities that I hope our little [name]Betty[/name] possesses, too. She”s probably a lot of the reason why I was so accepting of my hubby”s obsession with the name
We are really leaning towards [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carys[/name] I love the sound of [name]Cate[/name], but it is a bit similar to [name]Cade[/name] for my tastes and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Carys[/name]” meaning! Hubby is still pulling for [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Casey[/name], though”
Thank you again so much for your input! It is heartwarming to log in and see that you”ve replied You brighten my day!
Awe, thanks! Yep! [name]Betty[/name] was on [name]Larry[/name] [name]King[/name], and she was hysterical, not to mention sweet. (She was talking about her new TV show, which I think will be on TV [name]Land[/name].) I agree with everything you said about her. I adore [name]Betty[/name] White!
You think you’re going with [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Carys[/name]? I think it’s so gorgeous, and I love how [name]Carys[/name] is exotic, like [name]Whitney[/name]'s [name]Camille[/name]. (I love the sound of [name]Whitney[/name] [name]Camille[/name], by the way!)
I think it’s so sweet how your husband wants to go with [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Casey[/name]. I do think it sounds really cute, and it obviously has a lot of meaning to your family.
Have a good night!
P.S. I hope you stick around and post on Nameberry! It’s a lot of fun!
Oh, I had no idea she had a new show on the horizon! That”s so great, we will have to tune in Our whole family is a big fan of hers, and I really admire how she is always so family-friendly. I think our kids” favorite work of hers is probably Ponyo I can recite that movie from memory already, and we”ve only had the DVD for a couple of days!
I do really, really think we”re going with [name]Carys[/name] ” once I talk [name]Cam[/name] out of using my name for her middle (I”m determined to do so, can you tell?), we are home free! I just love, no pun intended, the meaning of [name]Carys[/name], as well as the sound. Since we have the whole [name]Ca[/name]- theme going on with our little ones” middle names, we always try to at least make them meaningful somehow, whether it is by association or by meaning. [name]Cade[/name] means gentle, at least according to one baby book of mine ” I”ve noticed Nameberry has a different meaning listed. [name]Caius[/name] means something along the lines of joyous. We picked [name]Cassian[/name] for a French saint who was born in Romania ” the two countries that my husband”s family comes from. [name]Camille[/name], though, is my secret favorite The second we found out we were finally having a little girl, I knew it had to be her middle name, in honor of her daddy. My second choice was [name]Cambria[/name], which I still like, but I think [name]Camille[/name] is so much prettier!
Goodness, I”m glad you don”t mind my rambling, because there I go again! The point I was trying to make, is, I love the meaning of [name]Carys[/name] It fits right in!
I was going to actually ask you if it would be okay for me to stick around on Nameberry, even after [name]Betty[/name] is born I just love the atmosphere, it”s so much fun, and I love names!
I just wanted to say that [name]Elizabeth[/name] “[name]Betty[/name]” [name]Carys[/name] is really a lovely choice! Of course you can stay around on NB after Miss [name]Betty[/name] arrives! We’d love to see you…
Hey! I forgot you have a [name]Cassian[/name] in the middle! I think that name is amazing! I love [name]Cassius[/name], too.
I seriously love everything about [name]Carys[/name], and love it with [name]Elizabeth[/name]! I’m so happy that you found such a beautiful name!
And here’s a subliminal message to your husband: “You have no desire to use [name]Casey[/name] in the middle…It’s all about [name]Carys[/name] for you! [name]Carys[/name], [name]Carys[/name], [name]Carys[/name].” There. All taken care of.
You know, I’ve never seen Ponyo! I have to Google it! [name]Betty[/name]'s show on TV [name]Land[/name] looks really, really cute! It also stars [name]Wendie[/name] Mallick, [name]Jane[/name] Leeves, and [name]Valerie[/name] Bertinelli. Go, [name]Betty[/name]! Did you see her Super Bowl commercial? It totally cracked me up.
You should totally stay on Nameberry! Anyone and everyone can post! It’s so much fun! I really, really hope you stay, [name]Casey[/name]! (I have to work on calling you [name]Casey[/name], because you’re BettyToBe to me now.) And for what it’s worth, I still don’t think you ramble! You’re fun and have great things to share!
