Ways to get to Jeb?

We (especially my husband) like long -iah names. [name_m]Zebediah[/name_m], [name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m], and [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] are on our list. But he apparently likes [name_m]Jebediah[/name_m] best; he says he likes [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] better than [name_m]Jed[/name_m] or [name_m]Zeb[/name_m].

I’m not in love with [name_m]Jebediah[/name_m]. I’d be happy to be corrected, but I’m pretty sure Nameberry’s data page is wrong; [name_m]Jebediah[/name_m] is not an Old Testament name, it’s a spin off [name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m], which is in the OT as another name for [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]. [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] [name_m]Stuart[/name_m] and [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] [name_m]Bush[/name_m] got their nicknames from their initials.

None of my other obscure J’s offer an obvious route to [name_m]Jeb[/name_m]. [name_m]Jabez[/name_m] and [name_m]Jubal[/name_m] are closest; I don’t adore [name_m]Jabez[/name_m], and he’s vetoed [name_m]Jubal[/name_m] in the past.

Initials could be an option, especially since we want [name_m]John[/name_m] in the combo; but I’m not crazy about [name_m]John[/name_m] up front, and he’s not crazy about 2 middles (our surname doesn’t start with B, so there’d have to be 2 middles.) The answer might be to compromise with [name_m]Zebediah[/name_m]/Zebedee nn [name_m]Zeb[/name_m], which he says is next best. But is there a better way to get to [name_m]Jeb[/name_m]? Give me your most creative solutions. Brothers are [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. Thanks!

Gosh I am stumped but if you like Jed which is like Jeb? Then there is Jedidiah ? Or Jem/Jeremiah
Perhaps Jacoby/Jacobi?

Jabar, [name_m]Jabari[/name_m], [name_m]Jabin[/name_m], Jabon nn [name_m]Jeb[/name_m]? A bit of a stretch, though.

Could you have a first starting with Je and a middle starting with B? [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe a J first name and an [name_m]Eb[/name_m] middle? Something like [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]/Benedict would work for the first, or any J name with [name_m]Eben[/name_m] would work for the second. Otherwise, I’m also a bit stumped!

Jeb Bush is John Ellis Bush, so maybe you could do something like that with initials?

edit: I just saw that you said that in your post, oops!

Behind the Name says it’s a nickname for [name_m]Jacob[/name_m].

Maybe a hyphen?

Jacoby, [name_u]Julian[/name_u] [name_m]Ebenezer[/name_m], [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_m]Ebenezer[/name_m], [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]?

Some good ideas, thanks! [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] especially stands out to me, @anon25197097 and @Greyblue. And @jk_garrison, thank you, I did see that and was intrigued because I hadn’t considered [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. I don’t dislike [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], but I know SO MANY, including a little cousin of my boys, that I’m pretty sure I don’t want to use it.

Clever, @skylerros, thanks. And @lyrasoxford and @Greyblue, the combos are something to think on.

The only [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] I have known has the given name of [name_u]Jackson[/name_u]. I never quite understood the relationship between the two, but it worked for him.

I think [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] could stand on its own as a full name as other three letter names sometimes do. Otherwise, I like the idea of a first name beginning with Je and a middle beginning with B, something like JEnsen [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m].

I really love [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] I must admit and I think you can easily get to jeb from the name

I love [name_m]Jacoby[/name_m] for you, but I’ll throw in for consideration [name_m]Jago[/name_m] “[name_m]Jeb[/name_m]”. [name_m]Jago[/name_m] is the Cornish version of [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. I love the energy of [name_m]Jago[/name_m] with [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m].

Also loving [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m] “[name_m]Zeb[/name_m]”. I think it flows particularly well with [name_m]John[/name_m] as the middle, too.

@Dechen thanks! [name_m]Jago[/name_m] is cool; I’ll give it some thought. And honestly, right now I’m thinking [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m] or [name_m]Zebediah[/name_m], nn [name_m]Zeb[/name_m], might be the best solution to this conundrum.

@tfzolghadr, I am, and obviously I thought of [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] [name_m]Stuart[/name_m], but I also didn’t really think of [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] as being that much of a one-man name. (I actually don’t love the association with [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] [name_m]Bush[/name_m], either…) I guess I don’t mind that much if some people think of [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] [name_m]Stuart[/name_m], but if they think we named our son after him or if the impression is “What will they be doing next, flying a Confederate flag?” then that’s a problem.

I really doubt we use [name_m]Jubal[/name_m].

Benjamin is a clever idea. I like it. Not only is it a tad tame for us, though, but it’s also my dad’s name, and we already used his mn ([name_m]Arnold[/name_m]) as a middle for our second son :slightly_smiling_face: Otherwise [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] nn [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] would merit more thought.

Jubilee… I’ll think it over. I am drawn to EE-ending names this time. I knew a lady once whose siblings mostly had punny names, and she had a brother [name_m]Jubal[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. Ha. I do love [name_m]Jubal[/name_m], but my husband wasn’t thrilled last time I brought it up. Plus it sounds like [name_m]Jubal[/name_m] nn [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] would be a double dose of Confederate general.
