Ways to honor my father’s name for a girl

Hello nameberries,

This is my first post and i’m hoping for your valuable help:

My father’s name is [name]Eduard[/name] (Ay-doo-ard), and i’m not sure how to honor his name for a future daughter. I’ve considered [name]Edith[/name], [name]Edie[/name], [name]Eden[/name], or [name]Phaedra[/name], Fardau, [name]Audrey[/name] (contains most of the same letters). My favorites are [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Edith[/name] However, [name]Audrey[/name] is considered tacky here (I’m Dutch), and [name]Edith[/name] feels outdated.

Which suggestions do you have?

Thank you!

If you love [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Edith[/name], use one of them! [name]Don[/name]'t worry about a name being tacky or dated, your little girl will make it her own and it’ll likely be refreshing. I have a soft spot for dated names, so I know the dilemma. I say use it

Maybe [name]Eden[/name] instead of [name]Edith[/name]? Or [name]Ada[/name]?

Maybe [name]Eden[/name] instead of [name]Edith[/name]? Or [name]Ada[/name] instead of [name]Audrey[/name] (or maybe a nn).

I like [name]Edana[/name] and [name]Edda[/name].

What about [name]Etta[/name]?

Why is it considered tacky? I like [name]Audrey[/name] but [name]Edith[/name] is really musty and old I really dontl likeit

I would go with [name]Eden[/name] or [name]Edie[/name] (both very pretty names). You can’t go wrong there

[name]Edwina[/name]? No, I presume that’s too old-fashioned.
I like [name]Etta[/name] or [name]Edith[/name].

The Y in Audrey is not used in traditional Dutch names, it is associated with English/American names, which are often viewed as tacky. Same goes for Kelly, Destiny, Cindy, Kimberley, Shelley, Courtney, Britney, Lindsey, Shirley, Samantha, etc.
I associate it more with Audrey Hepburn and Audrey Tatou, two elegant actresses.
Edith is growing on me, but a bit old…

I like [name]Edda[/name], and [name]Etta[/name] on paper, but not out loud. Thank you for the suggestions!

Since your father pronounces his name “AY-doo-ard” …[name]How[/name] about [name]Ada[/name]? “AY-dah” I think it’s quite an elegant name, well-established, yet sounds clean and modern. Plus, it’s a palindrome, which is always good.

Maybe a name with a similar meaning? From what I’ve seen, [name]Eduard[/name] means guardian (or some variation thereof)

[name]Greer[/name] (watchful, guardian)
[name]Alexandra[/name] (defender of the people)
[name]Shamira[/name] (guardian, protector)

but if you like [name]Audrey[/name], I say go for it! I personally like [name]Eden[/name] out of your others

If i wouldn’t live in the Netherlands, [name]ADA[/name] would be beautifully suited, however: Here, it would be prn as ah-dah, and if i would insist on the prn Ay-dah, it sounds as a well known supermarket. Thanks for your help though!

[name]Greer[/name] (watchful, guardian) - [name]Love[/name] it - the Dutch G ruins it though
[name]Alexandra[/name] (defender of the people) - beautiful, but nephews middle name is [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Shamira[/name] (guardian, protector) - Sounds too foreign: quite a few Maroccan-Dutch are called [name]Samira[/name]

I have thought about meaning-honoring, and love these:
[name]Selma[/name]
[name]Liv[/name]

What about [name]Edina[/name]?

[name]Edina[/name] is also an option, thanks  But i prefer [name]Edith[/name] i think.

[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Auden[/name]
[name]Audra[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Arwen[/name]

Eduarda
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Edie[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Edna[/name]
[name]Edina[/name]
[name]Edwina[/name]
[name]Edda[/name]
[name]Etta[/name]

[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Aida[/name]
Aethelreda (pronounced EH-THahLRahDah)

You could also use anagrams of the name [name]Eduard[/name]:

Audred
[name]Edda[/name] Ru
Eddura
[name]Rue[/name] (leaving out the letters add)
[name]Aure[/name] (leaving out the letters dd)
Ruedda/ Rueda (leaving out the letters d)

Best of luck!

I actually love [name]Edith[/name], plus you get the cute nickname [name]Edie[/name].

I love the name [name]Eduard[/name], it would be lovely to keep it for a son.

I think the prettiest [name]Ed[/name] name that I can think of is Edelina nn of [name]Edie[/name]. It is really feminine and it has a gorgeous flow.

If you want a modern unisex style name then [name]Eden[/name] would be a good choice.

If you want something close to [name]Audrey[/name] then I would choose [name]Audra[/name]
