I’ve had [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] on my list for a long time to honour my grandmother who we lost in 2018. She was [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f](e) (I’m not certain on spelling of [name_f]Ann[/name_f]). Problem is, she hated her name! As a child she expressly told me not to name anyone [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I’d love to include some kind of homage to her though, as she was a very special person in my life.
I can’t use [name_f]Margot[/name_f] due to a close connection with the name and don’t like nickname-names like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. Any ideas for honouring my grandmother without her ghost glaring at me for the rest of all time?
@jonquils Not a terrible suggestion, but I’m not American so have no connection to the dolls at all. [name_u]Kit[/name_u]’s not my favourite either, though I’m sure that’s blasphemy on Nameberry!
@Posielee Oh I love the suggestion of [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] and I already had [name_f]Greta[/name_f] on my list without making the connection to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
@VEL Thank you, so many suggestions! I like [name_u]Merritt[/name_u] for boys and Merit as a middle name for a girl would be lovely.
@almostactually thanks for so many suggestions. [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] as a middle is a great option and I like both [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. Lots to think about!
@UnderTheRainbow [name_f]Merida[/name_f] is definitely interesting and not what I’d have come up with by myself, thank you! I do love [name_f]May[/name_f] (though not the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] spelling for some reason) and [name_f]Gretel[/name_f] is a lovely choice.
I’m in a similar situation as my mom is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and she hates her name as well so some options I’ve considered, though so may be a stretch:
Daisy (my top choice but i know it sounds a little nicknamey-cutesy)
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Marceline[/name_f]
[name_f]Megan[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Peggy[/name_f]
