[name]Hi[/name] Berries! What are ways that you would honour the mothers name of a child without using a double-barrel or maiden-as-middle. I thought of maybe using where she was from as a middle name or something like that. Ideas please! x
For a girl mother’s favourite flower or colour as a name, first or middle. Same initials.
Her [name]Favorite[/name] Name.
[name]Favorite[/name] Color. (As pp stated.)
[name]Favorite[/name] [name]Flower[/name]. (As pp stated.)
[name]Favorite[/name] Scent.
[name]Favorite[/name] Animal.
Same origin. [If name is Italian, find another Italian name.]
Variant of her name. [Instead of [name]Diana[/name], use [name]Diane[/name]]
Different spelling of her name.
Same meaning.
See what other countries have as a different way of saying and spelling the name. Something that you can recognize and say without it being to difficult.
Her set of Initials. (As pp stated.)
[name]May[/name] not be much help, but I thought I would throw out something, in case it would inspire you.
I love these ideas! I also like the where they were from idea. You could also use their favourite song, where they were born, a significant place for her etc.
I love all of these ideas. I’d maybe add something related to her profession or hobbies to the list. (example: if she’s a [name]Lawyer[/name] you might like [name]Justice[/name], [name]Justus[/name], [name]Justin[/name] or [name]Justine[/name], ect.)
My mom used her favorite flower, that’s how I got the middle name [name]Rose[/name]. She even in a subtle way got her favorite gemstone as my first name, She loves Diamonds, and my name is [name]Diana[/name], so they share the 1st 3 letters.
People already listed great ideas some more:
month of birth ([name]January[/name], February, etc…)
birthstone (sapphire, amethyst, etc…)
place of birth ([name]Atlanta[/name], [name]Madison[/name], etc…)
state of birth ([name]Missouri[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], etc…)
favorite author (for example if you like [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name], use [name]Jane[/name])
favorite book/movie/play/musical (for example if you like [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] - [name]Luna[/name], [name]Hermione[/name], etc…)
favorite season (winter, summer, autumn, spring or something relating to that season like [name]Snow[/name] for [name]Winter[/name])
favorite holiday (for example if it is [name]Christmas[/name], then maybe [name]Holly[/name] or [name]Noelle[/name])
I’ve never heard of anyone doing this [name]IRL[/name] and maybe not even on the boards, but I’ve always liked the idea of asking the person you’re trying to honour to pick a name. Especially if they have a favourite they were never able to use for some reason (e.g. her favourite girl’s name if the woman only had sons). This idea came about when I was wondering how I could potentially honour someone whose name I hated (I know, I’m only in high school… just daydreaming).
