I would love to see [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] get some love. It’s soft, but it’s not girly. With the softer boys’ names I generally imagine a more introverted, intellectual, and/or artistic type. A hyper-masculine athlete or leather-clad rock star could totally rock [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] though.
I truly love this name. It is a softer sounding name, but it definitely isn’t girly. I wouldn’t assume Latino descent.

I used to work with a guy named [name_m]Fabian[/name_m]. He’s not latino, he’s black. He pronounces it like [name_f]Fay[/name_f]-bee-an, which always got on my nerves because I like traditional pronunciation, but I could hardly tell someone that they’re pronouncing their own name wrong. lol Also, he was only a few years older than me.
I’ve only heard this name on the ex-footballer [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] Barthez, who was French, so I’d think of it as a French name rather than Latino. I don’t think it’s too girly but I’d probably use a fairly normal, masculine name as a middle, like [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] or something.
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m] will always remind me of a male singing idol who was popular in the 50s. But I’m sure most people on this board have never even heard of him (Yeah, I’m one of those ol’ [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Boomers). Anyway, I think it’s quite a nice name, and not girly at all.

I thought [name_f]Fay[/name_f]-[name_f]Bee[/name_f]-an was a legitimate pronunciation. No? I do know of Fah-[name_f]Bee[/name_f]-Ahn. I don’t really mind either, leaning towards the first one in an English speaking country.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think a “normal” middle name would do best?
I was thinking maybe [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] (i am feeling bold today) or [name_m]Archie[/name_m]? Maybe [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]?
I love [name_m]Fabian[/name_m], and I don’t think it’s Spanish-sounding at all, I actually picture a [name_m]German[/name_m] guy.
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]

I know it’s a totally different name, but [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Fabio[/name_m] and conjures images of romance novel covers and that guy in Beauty & the Beast that hit on [name_f]Belle[/name_f] ([name_m]Gaston[/name_m]? The creepy guy with long hair). I read it as “[name_f]Fay[/name_f]-bee-en” But that’s probably just my weird mental association.
Definitely has an exotic flair-- I would probably pair it with a more traditional middle like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].
I know a geeky guy in his 30’s with this as his middle name. First name is [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. I was never a huge fan of it, but I could see the appeal, I guess.
I do like [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
I knew I would mixed feelings about this name
Anyone else?
I really like [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] – nothing girly about it. I actually knew a guy with this name who was a drummer in a punk band.
Not ‘girly’ per se, but [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] would be fabulous on a gay guy.
Um. What? I can’t even.
My Spanish teacher’s first name was [name_m]Fabian[/name_m], so to me it does have a Hispanic feel. It doesn’t seem girly to me at all. I’d also pair it with a traditional middle name.
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] (I think this sounds cool)
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Fabian[/name_m] [name_m]Luke[/name_m]
I’d rather you not speak like that on my threads. Thank you in advance.
Thanks for speaking up. As a queer person, I found that comment really offensive.
Honestly, I do not like it. It reminds me too much of [name_m]Fabio[/name_m], and the pronunciation issues could be annoying. It’s frilly, and I’m not a fan of frilly names. And I do not like the potential nickname “Fab.”
It makes me think of [name_m]Fabio[/name_m] and the singer [name_m]Fabian[/name_m]. I think of a wannabe Casanova with shellacked hair. Not a name I’m fond of at all.
I like [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] but I wouldn’t use it. I wrote a story about a boy called [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] who was a bit troubled but it fit his character prefectly.
