WDYT: Celandine and variations

I found this flower in an old nature book, “Nature’s Playground” by cordelia e. leigh, and thought it would be a really, really pretty name. I was surprised that it has not been recorded in the US name registry at all since the beginning (1880), not even 5 births in a year. Here is a poem about the flower from the book:
"The poet Wordsworth wrote in praise of the small Celandine.

‘Pansies, lilies, kingcups, daisies
Let them live upon their praises.
[name_m]Long[/name_m] as there’s a sun that sets
Primroses will have their glory,
[name_m]Long[/name_m] as there are violets
They will have a place in story.
There’s a flower that shall be mine,
Tis’ the little celandine.'"

It can be pronounced: SEHL-ən-deen, SEHL-ən-dien

Other variations include: Selodonia/Celadonia

Impressions?

It’s really lovely! Very surprised it hasn’t been used more, especially back in the late 1800s, early 1900s. I’m having a real love-affair lately with the -ine names, [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Celestine[/name_f], [name_f]Albertine[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]. It seems to slot right in with those AND what with having a beautiful Wordsworth poem singing its praises, it is a real mystery.

There is a little something that stops me loving it though, I do hear ‘celery’ and ‘[name_f]Celine[/name_f]’, and maybe that’s it? But its the type of name I would swoon on someone else, but likely wouldn’t pick myself (mainly because of all the other -ine names I’m currently in love with!).

I think Celandine is very sweet, though perhaps more suited as a middle name as I imagine it would be misheard all the time.

I think it’s lovely, but I’m a nickname person so that would trip me up a bit. Celly? Would be a lovely middle name.

I think it’s really pretty, though if I didn’t know I’d be inclined to put the emphasis on the last syllable, not the first. Still, it’s a sweet, beautiful name! I like Celandine more than its variations.

I always adore Celandine! Your thread is such a happy surprise, as I didn’t expect to see Celandine. I am not a fan of the other variants, but Celandine I hold dear in my heart. It’s such a soft, sweet name.

Celandine really is a beautiful name! It is unusual, but I think that it is similar enough to other names that it is definitely pronounceable and looks and sounds like a name. I think Celandine is lovely and usable!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! It’s the heroine of a lesser-known children’s book, too: Celandine by [name_m]Steve[/name_m] Augarde. It’s the middle one of a trilogy and I remember those books fondly, some great names too (there’s a male [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f], I seem to remember). Celandine was an intriguing character: complex and powerful, but troubled.
