WDYT: Lorina

Thoughts - good, bad, or otherwise. Trying to get a feel for what this name projects.

All I can think of unfortunately is [name_f]Lorena[/name_f] Bobbitt - the woman who cut off her hubby’s member!

[name_m]How[/name_m] is it pronounced? Like ‘[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]-uh’ or ‘Lor-ee-nah’ or something different? I am inclined to like it.

Not a fan, sorry! But my mum’s right into the [name_m]Bachelor[/name_m] at the momoent and one of the bitchy one’s name is Lorina (spelling?). That’s what it reminds me of.

But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad name.

Not my personal style, but I think it has a beautiful sound. I think it’s fantastic with [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]!

Thanks for the input! It is Luh-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-nuh. I like the [name_f]Lorena[/name_f] spelling better, but thought it would likely be mispronounced as Lo-[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-nuh, (which IS a legit pronunciation.) So, trying out the alternative spelling, which was a NB suggestion.

There is a singer named Loreena McKinnett. That could be another option for the pronunciation you are looking for.

I like [name_f]Lorena[/name_f] and [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] but Lorina feels a bit odd…actually it reminds me of [name_f]Corina[/name_f] (which I love) and that someone just wanted to change the look/sound.

Lorina sounds kind of dated, and made up. I like [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Lyra[/name_f].

I actually like it. Better then I do [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] or [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]

There is also the [name_f]Laurina[/name_f] spelling. Lorina is ok but it doesn’t have the same depth .of [name_m]Raphael[/name_m].

A few years ago I read a book about [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_u]Carroll[/name_u], who wrote [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland. The “real” [name_f]Alice[/name_f]'s sister was Lorina, nicknamed [name_f]Ina[/name_f], so it feels Victorian to me. Pretty, easy to say, doesn’t feel weird yet I’ve never me one. Daintier than [name_f]Lorena[/name_f]. I really like it.

Thanks everyone! You touched on some of my main concerns, especially that it might look made up. (Which it’s not, I promise!) This will be one I continue to think about.
