WDYT: Oaklyn

Ok, Berries. I browse on here A LOT but never really post much. [name]Baby[/name] number three, [name]Cora[/name] [name]Noel[/name], arrived this past [name]January[/name] but I still can’t stop thinking about names for potential future children! Anyway, my 9 yo son, in a hurry to name his female video game character, named her Oaklyn and I INSTANTLY loved it for a little girl. Hubby and I also love [name]Pepper[/name]…I like the feel of Oaklyn [name]Pepper[/name] if we ever have another girl. I just don’t know if she fits in with [name]Max[/name] ([name]Maximos[/name]), [name]Iris[/name], and [name]Cora[/name]. What do you think?

I think Oaklyn has a cool sound, but I keep wanting to add a “d” sound to the end almost like its incomplete. It wouldn’t clash with your childrens’ names, but it does sound more made-up or trendy than the more classic sounding names of your other children.

[name]Max[/name], [name]Iris[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] are lovely names and they go well together. Oaklyn would be the odd one out. There is a strange trend to add “lyn” onto names and words and I’m not really a fan of the phenomenon. Oaklyn [name]Pepper[/name] is reminiscent of "oats and pepper.I think your instincts are correct in this case: Oaklyn wouldn’t “fit” with her siblings. It doesn’t have the vintage charm, the history or the substance to compare with the three others.

I don’t like Oaklyn, it feels uber trendy and like a smoosh name to me. :frowning:
Oaklyn [name]Pepper[/name] is a definite no to me, I don’t think it fits with [name]Maximos[/name], [name]Iris[/name], and [name]Cora[/name] either.

Sorry, but Oaklyn sounds made up and the possible nn ‘[name]Oakie[/name] Doke’ just popped in my head.

[name]Pepper[/name], however, is darling.

To me, it sounds way to much like Oakland, a city in [name]California[/name]. [name]Oakley[/name] may be a good alternative. I think [name]Pepper[/name]/[name]Piper[/name] [name]Oakley[/name] would be really cute!! It also fits much better with your other kids, in my opinion

I actually the sound of the name, but, I automatically thought that it was a tryndee spelling of the city Oakland, I don’t know if that bothers you or not. Other than that though I actually like the name

Well personally I’ve never liked any “oak” names on a girl. [name]Oakley[/name] etc. I Know its a nature name and I think its silly to give gender to nature names but [name]Oak[/name] trees are thought of as massive, strong, towering, trees and so thats what I associate the name with. Therefore I can’t see giving that sort of name to a lil girl. JMO.

And this is totally off base but alexa400 I [name]LOVE[/name] your quote!!!

Being from the bay area, I really don’t like it. Most of Oakland isn’t very nice and I think it may get that association quite a bit with it being such a well known city. I don’t think of trees at all. [name]Just[/name] gangs and the Raiders. Sorry :frowning:

Erm, Oaklyn screams trendy, masculine, try hard! [name]Max[/name], [name]Iris[/name] & [name]Cora[/name] are three gorgeous names and I seriously don’t see how Oaklyn fits.

I think something like [name]Phoebe[/name] or [name]Pippa[/name] would fit much better!

I went to college in the [name]Bay[/name] area of [name]CA[/name] and immediately thought of Oakland as well. I’m not a huge fan of nature names in the first place, though, so it just isn’t my style. I also thought of [name]Annie[/name] [name]Oakley[/name] when I read Oaklyn. It doesn’t seem to fit with your other children’s names either.

Oakland is a g.p. for a boy.
Oaklyn is trendee; like you threw in a -lyn to “femininize” Oakland

And no, Oaklyn/Oakland doesn’t go with [name]Cora[/name] & [name]Iris[/name] at all (I don’t mention [name]Maximos[/name] because don’t think opposite gender sib names need to “go” together)
