Aelita is pronounced like EYE-lee-tuh
Anyways, what do you think of the name? I find it pretty and I absolutely think the spelling is gorgeous. I recently came across it and I am really loving it but something about it sorta puts me off…Does it seem tacky or made-up to you? Is it usable? Would an Aelita like her name?

Personally I feel like there would be pronunciation issues, when I see it I think “eh-lee-tah”

It’s interesting but I know what you mean, a bit off-putting for some reason. It’s probably the Soviet sci-fi origins and vague resemblance to “alien” that make it feel futuristic or “video game character” to me. The sound also reminds me of [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f]. Also reminded of Aella/Aëlla, a name from Greek mythology meaning “whirlwind.” I’m not really a fan of -ita names but do like the nickname [name_f]Lita[/name_f].
In Latin, the ‘ae’ is pronounced like the word ‘eye’, so that’s how I intuitively read the name. In English though, the ‘ae’ generally has more of an ‘aye’ sound, so you’re bound to get some Aye-lita mispronunciations. It’s adorable in my opinion. It sounds like the name of a fairy, but I don’t think it’s unrealistic for a real person though.
