WDYT of Alaric Marion nn Lark?

I’m working on figuring out combos for my boys list and for [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] I’m liking [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Marion[/name_u]. [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is for my grandmother who’s middle name is [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. What do you think? I’m almost afraid it’s too “soft”, especially with the nn [name_f]Lark[/name_f]. Are there any other masculine forms of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] that you think would work well with [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]?

I actually love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Marion[/name_u]! I think [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is plenty masculine enough to carry [name_u]Marion[/name_u] , but if you’re concerned you might use [name_m]Marius[/name_m] instead.

I think [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is quite nice! I also think [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is obscure enough that no one would question it on a boy. I actually really like it on a boy. Good luck!

I really like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] but I’m not so fond of [name_u]Marion[/name_u] on a boy. Especially with nn [name_f]Lark[/name_f]
Marinus?
[name_m]Martin[/name_m]

I think you’re right about [name_u]Marion[/name_u]–I always think of [name_u]Marion[/name_u] [name_m]Ross[/name_m]–the mom on ‘[name_f]Happy[/name_f] Days’. [name_m]Mario[/name_m] seems stronger and more masculine, or you could use the ‘m’ initial and pick any name you like. [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Maximillian[/name_m], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] Montrose, [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m], etc.

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is very masculine, so I think it carries [name_u]Marion[/name_u] just fine. [name_f]Lark[/name_f] for [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is clever.

I think [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is great, especially with the nn [name_f]Lark[/name_f]. I don’t think this combo reads feminine at all, [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is a unisex name and paired with [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] it reads all boy. [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is a very uncommon nature name, and most people wouldn’t know which gender, especially as a nickname.
Someone has already suggested [name_m]Marius[/name_m] and [name_m]Mario[/name_m] which would both work to honour a [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but I think [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Marion[/name_u] sounds the best.

I really like it! [name_u]Marion[/name_u] was my grandfather’s middle name. It’s a name that show up a lot in my family tree on both men and women. I think [name_f]Lark[/name_f] works very well on a boy. I definitely like “softer” boys’ names, but [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is very masculine and, should he decide he doesn’t like [name_f]Lark[/name_f], it’s a great name for him to fall back on. I think it’s a great combination.

I also don’t read feminine from it. [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is unisex and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] is masculine. I know a boy with the middle name [name_f]Lark[/name_f] so that’s unisex to me too. I love the combo.

If you are too worried about it, try these [name_f]Mar[/name_f] (I’m including names that contain [name_f]MAR[/name_f] not just starts with it) names:

I absolutely love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], but not with [name_u]Marion[/name_u] or the nickname [name_f]Lark[/name_f]. I don’t like the combination of the repeated ‘ar’ look and -ri sound. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I don’t like the combinations I don’t think it’s too soft.

[name_m]Marcel[/name_m]
[name_m]Marek[/name_m]
[name_f]Marin[/name_f]
[name_m]Marcel[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcas[/name_m]/[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcellus[/name_m]* Might seem too TVD and The Originals

You could always save the honor for a daughter. [name_f]Maren[/name_f]/[name_f]Mara[/name_f]/[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] would be a lovely sibling set.

I think [name_u]Marion[/name_u] is stunning on a boy! I’m from the Deep South, so I totally associate the name with [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_u]Marion[/name_u], the legendary Swamp [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. Of course like all American heroes, tales of [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_u]Marion[/name_u] have been greatly embellished, but I still remember him from my elementary school history lessons and loved reading stories of his craftiness.

I’m most thrown by [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] nn [name_f]Lark[/name_f] to be honest. I love both names separately, but they seem so opposite in feel that using one as a nickname for the other confuses me a little. I’m sure that’s mainly a matter of personal preference though.

Oh my! With the middle and the nickname, I thought you were considering [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] for a girl! :frowning:
I love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]! I can’t picture [name_f]Lark[/name_f] on a boy. I know that the nn’s for [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] kind of suck. [name_m]Al[/name_m] or [name_m]Rick[/name_m]. eww
Instead of [name_u]Marion[/name_u], may I suggest [name_m]Marius[/name_m], [name_m]Marlon[/name_m], [name_m]Mario[/name_m], [name_u]Merle[/name_u], [name_m]Maro[/name_m], [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m]?

Thanks for the opinions! I’m happy to see that most don’t read [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Marion[/name_u] as soft. It’s a combo I’ll have to let simmer for a little while. I sorta like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] too, so that’s one to consider.

@dantea, thanks for the suggustions! I might have to consider Cadmar for my firsts list! I’ve been looking for a name I could get the nn [name_u]Cade[/name_u] out of but wasn’t loving any of the options I’d come up with.
