WDYT of Anjali?

A colleague of mine told me a couple of weeks ago that, had her son been a girl, their name would have been [name_f]Anjali[/name_f]. I’ve never heard it before, but I love Sanskrit names (especially ones with nice meanings) and was wondering what others thought of it?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it would be confused with Angelie/[name_f]Angeline[/name_f] often?

I think it is pretty, but I feel that it would get misspelled and mispronounced a lot. But no, I don’t think it would get mixed up with [name_f]Angeline[/name_f] as it is quite different.

Thanks @mummacat92, that’s my worry too.

I actually know someone with this name! I think it’s quite lovely and has a softness to it.

I adore [name_f]Anjali[/name_f]. But I’m partially biased because I know someone with this name and I adore her.

I think there may be times of mispronunciation, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a reason to not choose a name you love. Especially a beautiful one.

I would not use [name_f]Anjali[/name_f].

I knew a girl called Anjuli, which I think is a Sri Lankan variation of this name, and which I prefer. I like Anjuli / [name_f]Anjali[/name_f] much better than [name_f]Angeline[/name_f] etc.

I am pretty familiar with sanskirt names, so no, I never confuse [name_f]Anjali[/name_f] with any other names. I love it.

I think it’s absolutely gorgeous! It will probably get mispronounced and misspelled some in English, but I think a quick correction would be enough.
