WDYT of Britta?

What do you all think of the name [name_f]Britta[/name_f]? Does it seem like a nickname for [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]? I hope not, because the name [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] has negative connotations for me. I just met someone very nice named [name_f]Britta[/name_f] yesterday and instantly fell in love with the name.
Opinions are great!

Here in [name_f]England[/name_f] it’s the name of a water filter company. [name_f]May[/name_f] have a slightly different spelling but pronounced the same. Not a problem if your not in [name_f]England[/name_f] though. I’d possibly assume it was short for [name_f]Brittney[/name_f] but not necessarily.

I think of the character from Community and the water filters (which are spelled “[name_f]Brita[/name_f].”) Neither is a particularly bad association, and it definitely doesn’t feel like a nickname for [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]. It feels vaguely Norse to me, actually. Overall I’m indifferent.

I like this name! It is also the name of the water filter company. Which I don’t think should stop you if you love it. I don’t think of it as a nickname for [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], some probably will in [name_u]America[/name_u] but I wouldn’t worry over them, some people are just kind of ignorant about foreign names.

I also think of the Community character. I like the name but the association is too strong here (in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]) for us to consider it. Much more modern and cool sounding than [name_f]Brittany[/name_f]. Definitely a Northern European sound to it.

It reminds me too much of “brittle.”

I have a friend in the US named [name_f]Britta[/name_f]. I never thought it would be a nickname for something, but I did giggle a little because her last name also starts with a B and is a word name.

I forgot about the water filter!

Oddly enough, I really like the name.

I really like [name_f]Britta[/name_f] but prefer [name_f]Brita[/name_f] or Brida.

[name_f]Brita[/name_f] is the way the water filter is spelled.

Another reason I like this name is because it reminds me of [name_m]Britain[/name_m].

It’s my college-age best friend’s name so I like it. She says it means pure, but gets a lot of “water filter” comments.
