WDYT of Cricket?

I am desperate to find a spunky, maybe slightly tomboyish name for our new daughter. My favorites are [name]Bo[/name], [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Blossom[/name] (which is admittedly nowhere near tomboyish), [name]Clover[/name], [name]Molly[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Cate[/name], and [name]Pippa[/name]. Today I came across [name]Cricket[/name], and my initial reaction was that it embodies all I’m looking for. A bonus is that my mom ADORES it. But then I started second-guessing myself, so now I’m here to see what you guys think.

I haven’t said so before, but we have 7 daughters (our new daughter from [name]China[/name] will be our 8th). We kept two of our daughters’ given names after we adopted them because they were older (they are from Haiti and Ethiopia), but our other are daughters are [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Maizie[/name], [name]Sofie[/name], and [name]Cora[/name].

I thought I wanted something that is along the same lines as our other daughters’ names, and I know [name]Cricket[/name] would be a departure, but I’m really liking it right now. What do you think?

Honestly… I don’t like it. It’s too out there and odd for my taste. It could be a cute nn though! I had the nn Monkey as a kid, so nns that have nothing to do with their given name are just fine!

I dont like it at all. I know a girl named [name]Cricket[/name] and her sister is [name]Ariel[/name]. Not a fan.

I think [name]Cricket[/name] is cute, but I would name her [name]Cate[/name] or even [name]Clementine[/name] and nickname her [name]Cricket[/name].

I deffinetly do not like [name]Cricket[/name]. I think of the concience from Pinnochio, or the actual bug. [name]Clementine[/name] nicknamed [name]Cricket[/name] might work instead.

I don’t like the name, [name]Cricket[/name]; to put it nicely. [name]Pippa[/name] and [name]Molly[/name] are my favorites from the list. Good [name]Luck[/name]! And YAY for adoption <3.

I think [name]Catherine[/name] nickname [name]Cricket[/name] would be alright. I see that you like [name]Cate[/name] too, so maybe this suggestion would appeal to you.

I seem to really be in the minority, but I like it. I think it sounds super cute for a kid, but I am not sure it will carry over well to adulthood. I agree with the pp’s maybe you can use one of the names you already like and use it as a nn? Good luck!

[name]Christine[/name] [name]Blair[/name] nn [name]Cricket[/name] was a fictional character on a TV soap opera “The [name]Young[/name] and the Restless”. It would be a cute nn but personally I would use a more traditional first name to give her the option of using when she matures. [name]Clementine[/name] nn [name]Cricket[/name] would work.

Oh I absolutely adore it! It is cute, spunky, unique, and special to that little girl. I like it’s spirit, happy and energetic. I think it would work best as a nickname, but there are far harder names to carry into adulthood. Full name ideas…

[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Crispin[/name]
[name]Cassidy[/name]
[name]Catriona[/name]
[name]Clarice[/name]
[name]Clarissa[/name]
Chrysanthemum why not?
[name]Cerelia[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name]

I’m sorry, but I think it’s horrible. I cannot imagine that name on someone older than maybe 8. [name]One[/name] of my favourite name advices is “you’re naming a person that’s gonna be an adult”, not a little baby. What if [name]Cricket[/name] ever wants to become a doctor? president?

I’d go with something else, maybe [name]Cricket[/name] as a nickname if you really like it.

I agree with using it as a nn for something that would match your other children a bit more  It would be a fun nn but having an alternative later in life would be nice. (I immediately think of the Dr [name]Princess[/name] I met the other day… she could grow up to be Dr. [name]Cricket[/name])

Honestly, I love it!
I dont know why, it is not my style at all, but it’s just peppy and happy (chirpy? haha). If you love it, your mom loves it, and you have the guts to go for it, I vote yes.

Maybe give her a full name thats a little more standard ([name]Christine[/name]?) and use [name]Cricket[/name] as a nickname?

Our daughter has Down syndrome, so she probably won’t be a doctor or president, but I want to make sure she has the sweetest, spunkiest name ever. I know, I know - we’re all in search of the “perfect” name or we wouldn’t be here. If only it weren’t so darn elusive! Argh!!!

I think [name]Cricket[/name] should strictly be used as a nickname. It doesn’t even have to be a nickname for a first name that starts with C or K- it works for everyone because it’s a word and (I’ve heard it used as) a term of endearment.

I love it. My 4-month-old son was going to be [name]Cricket[/name] (if he had been a girl, of course). My husband really loved the name, and it was turn to pick. I know two adult women who go by [name]Cricket[/name], and they don’t seem to be having any problems. That said, I think you and I have similar taste, as my choice for a girl was [name]Clover[/name] (which goes perfectly with my daughter’s nature name).

I don’t like it.
The sound is not flattering, and the animal is annoying.

I agree with the idea of [name]Cricket[/name] as a nn 100%!
Crickets are very auspicious in [name]China[/name] as they represent good luck.
Crickets are related to “Katydids” so the name [name]Katy[/name] nn [name]Cricket[/name] does it for me!!! I think it would be awesome for a girl starting life with the challenges of assimilating with a disability to have the mainstream (but cute) name “[name]Katy[/name]” with the spunky (and lucky!) [name]Cricket[/name] nn!

I have always been of the mind set that [name]Cricket[/name] is a great nickname for [name]Felicity[/name] ([name]Felicity[/name] > [name]Flick[/name] > [name]Cricket[/name])! [name]Felicity[/name] is such a lovely, positive name.

I think it’s really cute. I like [name]Clover[/name] from your list as well. It would be a good nn for [name]Catherine[/name] if you want to give her a more wearable option in case there is teasing. My sister had a doll called [name]Cricket[/name] and it went with a board game I think?
