WDYT of Darwin?

It’s rare that I find myself crushing on a boy name but I have a new obsession!

[name_m]Darwin[/name_m]

Of course, there’s the association with [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Darwin[/name_m], but I’m unaware of any reason that would be considered a bad association. The meaning is oh so sweet: “dear friend”. I’m also just a fan of D———n names, I’ve noticed. I like [name_u]Declan[/name_u], [name_m]Dawson[/name_m], [name_m]Damian[/name_m], and [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] as well.

Others on my boys list are: [name_m]Torin[/name_m], [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_m]Enzo[/name_m], [name_u]Nico[/name_u], [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], [name_m]Myles[/name_m], [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], and [name_u]Evren[/name_u].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] fits? What are your thoughts on the name?

Thank you!

I like [name_m]Darwin[/name_m], but when they’re in school and having a lesson on evolution and stuff, your kid may feel a bit embarrassed with the name [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] being mentioned a lot.

I love [name_m]Cassian[/name_m], if my last name didn’t start with a C, I would probably choose that one!

Other possible names:
[name_u]Devon[/name_u]/Devin
[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Lucien[/name_m]/Lucian

I absolutely love the name [name_m]Darwin[/name_m]. I have it on my list for boys in the combo [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] [name_m]Harold[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]. I think it totally works with the other names your list. Using the names you like [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] [name_u]Luca[/name_u] [name_m]Enzo[/name_m] & [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_u]Nico[/name_u] are cute combos.

I really like [name_m]Darwin[/name_m]! [name_u]Love[/name_u] the meaning, the nickname “[name_u]Win[/name_u]” (or even “Dare”?), and I definitely think it fits with your other names. It’s cute and cuddly but serious, too. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f], and I can’t see it being embarrassing at school.

I can appreciate that there are some people who would find [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] to be a negative association (see Darwinism/evolution vs. creationism), but this would be a matter of personal belief rather than anything awful [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] himself has said or done. But it would definitely be worth looking into it more to be sure! In fact, it’s always worth spending some time properly looking into any “namesake” type names, IMO, even if you’re not naming with the person in mind per se.

I could see it being a tad weird maybe when [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] is brought up at school, but I don’t think it would be much different than for a boy named [name_u]George[/name_u] while learning about the Revolutionary War or a girl named [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] while learning about the Civil Rights movement. Or, even as an [name_u]Abby[/name_u] when [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_m]Adams[/name_m] is brought up!

I’ve actually been watching a lot of YouTube videos about science and biology during the last few months, which has inspired my love for the name [name_m]Darwin[/name_m]! I would definitely do more research specific to the man himself if I ever use the name though.

@Elle1 I have [name_m]Soren[/name_m], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], and [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] on my long list! [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is also in my top 2 for girls so those names definitely suit my style!

@Sarah1694 [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] [name_m]Harold[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] is so delightful!

That’s such a lovely and fun reason to love a name (and would be a fun story to share with a child as well).

I generally like surnames as first names, and [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] is no exception! It has really positive connotations for me, and I like the sound of the name as well.

I think it’s a nice name. Unusual and distinctive. I think it fits with the familiar, but somewhat offbeat, vibe of the other names on your list.

I may be wrong about this, but to my knowledge the only people who would consider [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] a “bad” association would be devout creationists. The name [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] existed before [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] was around anyway so I don’t think it’s a huge deal.

Darwin is great and fits so well with your other favourites! A kid named [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] would definitely get [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] mentioned to him a lot, but there are so many names with well-known associations that it would be a shame not to use it.

While I personally love [name_m]Darwin[/name_m], I would be slightly wary only because of “the [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] Awards” which I personally find hilarious but some people would find offensive/insulting.

One of my friends mentioned these too but I’ve never heard of them before?

They’re basically “awards” given to people who do idiotic things and almost get themselves killed. The implication being that in [name_m]Darwin[/name_m]’s survival of the fittest world they’re the losers.

I really like the sound, and it goes perfectly with your other names!

It feels really geeky to me. This is a super 90s association but I think of the monkey from the [name_u]Wild[/name_u] Thornberrys.

I like it! Definitely strongly associated with [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] to me, but that’s not a bad thing. I had a science teacher who named their kid [name_m]Darwin[/name_m] because of that.

I don’t care for this name for some reason, just not my style.

I LOVE [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] and [name_m]Myles[/name_m]!!!

I can’t say I get this reference either lol.

I think of this too, but there’s so many names in pop culture, and this one is pretty obscure, I wouldn’t worry about it!
