WDYT of Gail?

Is it usable? I like the quirky sound of it, and we prefer names that are not popular but I wonder if it just in the awkward stage of being an old lady name for another 30 years before it is considered usable. Middle would be Eila-Brynn.

It’s cute, but I prefer [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gail[/name_f].

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is pretty popular in my circles and I’ve never really cared for it due to that. So, while it is a nice name, it is not one we would use.

It’s so cute in my opinion!!

I’m going to be honest and say it feels very baby boomer to me. That’s probably because it’s an older family member’s name so I just can’t imagine it on a little girl. I much prefer [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].

Agree… To me this feels daggy old still, but that’s purely personal (knew a lot of mums called [name_f]Gail[/name_f] as a kid… Most of them pretty mean!) I don’t have that connotation at all with the similar sounding [name_u]Yael[/name_u] / Yaëlle.

[name_f]Gail[/name_f] is quirky and cute. I get the old lady vibe but I’m thinking it would be totally adorable on a kid too. Im in the US for reference and don’t know any Gails but imagine them being near 80

I think it’s cute & pretty. I could definitely picture on a little girl.

[name_f]Gail[/name_f] is nice!! I have [name_f]Cheryl[/name_f], [name_f]Cindy[/name_f] and [name_u]Sandy[/name_u] on my own list, can’t see why [name_f]Gail[/name_f] wouldn’t fit! I think mid-century names are next due for a comeback anyways  I do prefer the [name_f]Gayle[/name_f] spelling though, but only slightly.

I have a hard time picturing it on a little kid, but that’s probably because I’ve never met a little [name_f]Gail[/name_f]. I like the name a lot, though, despite, weirdly, not caring much for the name [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Gail[/name_f] is definitely wearable and stands on its own quite well.

We are considering [name_u]Gale[/name_u] as a middle name (it’s my maiden.) I personally prefer it in the middle name spit as it does feel dated. But its certainly bad at all!

I think it’s usable! Not fashionable yet, but there isn’t a reason you can’t use it.

[name_f]Gail[/name_f] is cute! I quite like it

Thanks for all the replies! Since there is a mix of both positive and negative, that actually makes me more comfortable with it. It was the same with our Cle0, and her name is perfect for her. I also prefer the [name_f]Gayle[/name_f] spelling but this is in honor of a woman who means a lot to us (she is 70), and my hubby wants to spell it the same way.

It sounds dated to me, unfortunately. I prefer [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u].

I love [name_f]Gail[/name_f]. It is the second name of my youngest sister. It is also the second name of my eldest daughter. Although with my daughter I changed the spelling to [name_f]Gayle[/name_f] so DD would have her own name. If I was naming a baby today I would go with [name_f]Gail[/name_f], [name_f]My[/name_f] youngest Granddaughter is [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] (in line with modern trends) so I would strongly recommend this name.

I feel like it’s a cute nickname, but I’m not sure of it as a full name.

[name_f]Gail[/name_f] is nice!

Would you like [name_u]Blair[/name_u] Eila-Brynn?

I really don’t like it, but it’s usable.
