So, my husband brought up [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] this evening and says he really likes it. I’m torn. I like it because it literally contains my mom’s name, [name_f]Lori[/name_f]. I dislike it because of the sound. We actually have [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] [name_f]Glory[/name_f] as a combo on our list already…and I like [name_f]Glory[/name_f] better than [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] and in the middle name spot.
What do you all think? What would you pair with [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]?
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] is a name I want to love, but it still feels really dated for me. [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] [name_f]Glory[/name_f] is a beautiful combo, so I would definitely just stick with that. If I was to pair [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], it would be with something very streamlined and modern so it doesn’t sound too over the top. I used to have [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] on my list.
I actually love [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], and [name_f]Glory[/name_f] is such an adorably cool nickname. So perfect that it contains your mother’s name too.
I think a [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] would fit right in with the Hazels and Sylvias and Ediths out there right now. It’s retro, fresh, and feminine.
My three year old niece is [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] (coincidentally born on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] day). I wasn’t sure what I thought when they initially brought it up, but I kind of love it now. She goes frequently by Glo (sometimes Gloie at home); I like seeing people a little surprised when they ask this tiny, pixie of a little girl her name and hear her response. I actually really like the name [name_f]Glory[/name_f], and [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] [name_f]Glory[/name_f] is fantastic. But I’d give [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] a chance to grow on you, just in case. If it doesn’t, go with [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] [name_f]Glory[/name_f]!
For what it’s worth, my niece’s name is [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_u]Matty[/name_u] (after her dad- I don’t love it but appreciate the honor name). Other middle name ideas in different styles:
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_u]Peyton[/name_u]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] ([name_f]Gigi[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
I REALLY like [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]; personally I like it better than [name_f]Glory[/name_f] (but that would be an awesome nickname for [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]).
I agree with the pp that it fits in with [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]/[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and all those other old-is-new names, but it’s still a bit ahead of the curve
[name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] is a great name, too, and I agree that it pairs better with [name_f]Glory[/name_f] in the middle (instead of the repeating “ia” ending of [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]).
Going loosely from your signature as inspiration:
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (repeat from a pp!)
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Calanthe[/name_f] ([name_f]Calla[/name_f]+[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f])
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] (this brings out the retro vibe, though I like it)
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Matea[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]
I think it’s lovely! Definitely destined for a revival in the next ten years or so. But if you’re not sold on it, [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] [name_f]Glory[/name_f] is also very cute.
I adore [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]. It is all-but at the top of my own girls list currently. My SO and I are both Latino, so it is important to find names that work in Spanish, Portuguese and English, and [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] (with or without the accent) checks all those boxes, plus, as a pp said, fits nicely in with the up-and-coming retro names like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], etc. In fact, I can’t quite decide whether I like [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] or [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] more, and [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] is definitely part of that group that is gaining popularity.
Additionally, I think the modern family reference is going to become dating very quickly, and to me is far surpassed by the massive number of Latina Glorias of note, not least of which being the eternal [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] [name_m]Estefan[/name_m].
I never thought much about this name until a few weeks ago when I met a woman named Glorianne. I really liked that name, although I tend to prefer more classic names. As far as the sound goes…it depends how people say it. If you’re in an area where it will come out as “Glawria” or “Glahriah,” it would be annoying. I like it as a middle name. I’m not sure I like it enough to be a first name.
Thanks for your feedback, everyone. I’m liking it a little better, but I still love [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] [name_f]Glory[/name_f] way better as a combo. I’m not sure I’ll ever like [name_f]Gloria[/name_f] enough to use as a first.
