WDYT of Hans?

[name_m]Hans[/name_m] said like HONZ.
Could it work in [name_u]America[/name_u]? Would people automatically assume it is like “Hands” without the d?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] curious, not expecting a boy

I don’t think [name_m]Hans[/name_m] would have very many pronunciation issues.

I would think the parents really liked Frozen…

I don’t think it would have pronunciation issues. It’s a common enough name to avoid that.

No to the pronunciation issues. I actually had brothers as students named [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Hans[/name_m], and [name_m]Lars[/name_m]. I think it works fine in the United States.

Hahaha funny, my partner and I are on a huge Frozen kick. ([name_m]Hence[/name_m] why his favorite girl name is [name_f]Elsa[/name_f])

I think the pronunciation is fairly intuitive and it’s a name most people are familiar with. I’d wonder if the parents were [name_m]German[/name_m], since every [name_m]Hans[/name_m] I’ve known has been of [name_m]German[/name_m] background.

Here in [name_m]Oz[/name_m] most would say Hands when in fact my friend’s husband [name_m]Hans[/name_m] is not HONZ but Hahn plus soft ‘s’.
