i adore it ! my favourite alternative to the well loved theodore i prefer isidore - it feels more versatile
I love the name [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] or [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], but it might be too adventurous for me to use it as a first name, but it’s definitely a contender for a middle spot. It feels very whimsical and like it would come from [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. I like [name_u]Idris[/name_u] as well, but I never know whether to pronounce it as eye-dris or i-dris like the “i” in imogen. And I associate the name with [name_u]Idris[/name_u] [name_f]Elba[/name_f]. I think [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] / [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] works better for a girl, and I can see [name_u]Idris[/name_u] working for both a girl or boy since it’s so similar to [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. If you’re more bold with your names then I say go for [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] it’s so cool!!
Isidore is a handsome choice! I like it more than Idris.
Never thought of it as an alternative to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] before now, thanks!
Thanks for your insight!
I definitely agree it’s whimsical and I usually pronounce [name_u]Idris[/name_u] like Eye-dris, which is a bit harsh compared to [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]
Didn’t think of [name_u]Idris[/name_u] [name_f]Elba[/name_f] either although it’s not an association i mind, thank you
I’m definitely bold and not afraid of going for [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]!
I love [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]! I think pronunciation is straightforward and it has no negative connotations at all to me. Still slightly “old-mannish” in terms of its popularity peak, but that’s rather a good thing to my mind!
[name_u]Idris[/name_u] is beautiful as well. I pronounce it “Id”-Ris (rather than “eye”-Driss). I met an [name_u]Idris[/name_u] in [name_f]France[/name_f] who says it “eed-Reece,” and that’s the only time I’ve heard it said differently from [name_u]Idris[/name_u] (as in rhymes with “lid”).
[name_u]Love[/name_u] both [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] and [name_u]Idris[/name_u], though I prefer [name_m]Isidore[/name_m].
Thanks! It’s definitely a tough choice i love both too
Isidore’s one of my favourites (so definitely wins over [name_u]Idris[/name_u] for me)! I always imagine a sweet, caring, little boy with a major love of cosying up with a book in a quiet corner somewhere. It’s one of those names that just radiates softness and kindness somehow. I can’t think of any negative associations, and the pronunciation is pretty straight forward imo.
I really like [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]! It’s interesting, uncommon but familiar at the same time, really quite a perfect combination.
The only thing that’s missing is a cute nickname, but I’m sure there are some I’m not thinking of at the moment.
I also like the Spanish [name_m]Isidro[/name_m], though I don’t think it has the same universal appeal.
[name_u]Idris[/name_u] is ver cool but I prefer [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]!
I love the little imagery you conjured up
It sounds perfect for a little [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]
I definitely agree it’s strange and familiar yet perfect at the same time!
I was thinking of that too, if there were any nicknames other than Izzy…
[name_m]Isidro[/name_m] is interesting! But I agree it doesn’t have the same appeal, and it’s a bit harsher and harder to pronounce
Oh, I adore [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]! As cute nicknames go I think [name_u]Sid[/name_u] is pretty good!
It gives me similar vibes to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], but is more offbeat which I prefer. I get gentle, thoughtful, intellectual vibes, but then [name_u]Sid[/name_u] gives it a bit more liveliness just like [name_u]Theo[/name_u].
I don’t have any particular associations, and I I think pronunciation is pretty straightforward.
I love [name_u]Idris[/name_u] too.
I like [name_u]Sid[/name_u] that’s a good one!
Definitely has the same vibes as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] without being such a classic name
Thank you!
I’m a big fan of [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]! It has a really cozy and friendly feel to me (: I love the suggestion of [name_u]Sid[/name_u] for a nickname! I also thought of nn [name_u]Dory[/name_u], but that leans more feminine for me. Definitely prefer [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] over [name_u]Idris[/name_u]!
I really like it
I adore both [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] and [name_u]Idris[/name_u], both are on my list!
They definitely have different vibes to me, though. [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] is stately and a little stuffy, but also fresh and a nice change from [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. I actually met a little [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] at a wedding a couple of years ago — his sister was [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] “Winnie”
[name_u]Idris[/name_u] is crisp, handsome and an interesting cultural crossover option (Welsh and Arabic). It’s generally pronounced ID-riss in both cultures, as far as I’m aware. I love it for a first name but I worry the [name_u]Idris[/name_u] [name_f]Elba[/name_f] connection is too strong (nothing negative towards the actor, it’s just a very distinctive celebrity name).
[name_m]Isidore[/name_m] is on my list for a middle but I think it works as a first too. I like [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] or [name_u]Ziggy[/name_u] for a nickname, if you’re willing to get a little creative!
[name_m]Isidore[/name_m] is so magical and beautiful!! [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] or [name_u]Sid[/name_u] could be nicknames?
I love [name_u]Idris[/name_u] too but [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] is my favourite
I really like this name, but a word of caution, I do sometimes question whether I’m more accepting to certain names because I’m a nameberry nerd.
The reason I say this is that someone I know called their baby [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] a few months ago and behind her back she was absolutely crucified for it. I’ve honeslty never heard such strong objections to a name, I was so surprised because I always really liked it!!
The objections ranged from sounding ridiculous, trying too hard, not having an Italian connection, feminine nicknames, spelling difficulties, being picked on school - you name it! I was really surprised by all this and defended the name massively but it did make me question whether my name nerd taste is normal…
