WDYT of Jem?

I have a crush on it right now. Your thoughts?

Thanks,

~[name]Jasmine[/name]

I love love love [name]Jem[/name], as a nn for [name]James[/name]. Not so much on its own.

[name]Love[/name] love love. I love the literary connection to [name]Scout[/name]'s older brother from TKAM, even if he is sort of a flat character. I also like the sound. [name]Jem[/name] [name]Finch[/name]'s nn is short for [name]Jeremy[/name], so it could work for [name]James[/name], [name]Jeremy[/name], or [name]Jeremiah[/name]. It does sound a bit like “gem” and therefore a little feminine, but it has history and it feels boyish to me.

I’m not such a fan. I don’t know if your planning on using it for a boy or a girl, but for a girl it seems just like a shortened version of [name]Gemma[/name] (which I don’t like), and for a boy it still feels feminine.

I adore [name]Jem[/name] for a boy. This has been one of my favourites for about 10 years. I get shot down if I ever mention it, so there’s that, but still - [name]LOVE[/name]!

It reads as a boy’s name to me, but I would prefer it as a nickname. However, there is a singer called [name]Jem[/name] who is a woman.

Like it due to [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables. I think [name]James[/name] would be a better pick.

I think it’s kind of cute as a nickname, as some have suggested but my first reaction was it reminded me of the cartoon character [name]Jem[/name] (or was it [name]Gem[/name])? So now I have [name]Jem[/name] is outrageous, truly, truly, truly outrageous in my head.

I absolutely love it! Use to be one of my favorites but with my accent it sounds like I’m saying [name]Jim[/name].

Fabulous nn, insufficient on its own. [name]Jeremy[/name] is one of my favorite names in general.

[name]Truly[/name] outrageous!

Anyone who was a child in the 1980’s will think of this first, before [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Finch[/name]'s son, even:

I really like it as a nickname. [name]James[/name] is my favorite full name with the nickname [name]Jem[/name], but as others have said, it’s a great nickname for [name]Jeremy[/name] or [name]Jeremiah[/name], too. (I just read “To Kill A Mockingbird” for the first time.) It makes more sense than [name]Jim[/name] and is much less common.

[name]Love[/name] as nn for [name]Jemima[/name] and [name]James[/name].

I love it.

[name]Love[/name] it as a nickname for [name]Jeremiah[/name], [name]Jeremy[/name], or [name]James[/name] .

[name]Love[/name] [name]Jem[/name] as a nn for [name]James[/name], but not a fan of it as a standalone name.

I kind of like [name]Jem[/name], but only as a nickname.

Like the others, I liked it as a nickname for [name]James[/name] after I first read it in the [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables series.

Exactly what I think of every time I hear it, mill1020! I wish I liked it, it seems like it has the cool quirky factor that I tend to really like, but it is just way too feminine to my ear.

I like the idea of it being a nickname for a young [name]James[/name] though, more of a pet name than a nickname, [name]IMO[/name].

I love it as a nickname for [name_u]James[/name_u] because of The Infernal Devices series
