WDYT of Kilmeny?

Redoing my girl list and wonder if you could see Kilmeny working? I’ve been a fan of the L.M. [name]Montgomery[/name] book since i was little and Kilmeny was beautiful, sweet and talented. It seems like a good namesake to me but wanted to get some opinions from the berries.

I appreciate the literary connection but Kilmeny just looks like “kill many”.

I agree.

I haven’t read anything by L. M. [name]Montgomery[/name], but it does sound like a wonderful namesake. It’s unfortunate that the name could have such a negative sound. I’m having a bit of a tough time saying it, too–is it KIL-mah-nee?

^ That was my first thought, too. I wasn’t a fan of the book at all. It’s a cute name, though. If you like the sound, have you considered Kilby or Kilarney? Otherwise, you might want to look for a different literary name.

I pronounce it Kil-men-e.

First thing I saw was “kill many” as well.

I love those books, too, but it DOES sound like “kill many” when you read it aloud or silently in your head. I even remember thinking that when I was a kid reading the books. :frowning:

I saw this and automatically thought “kill many.”

I have to agree with this. That’d be a difficult name to carry through life.

Another vote that it reads “kill many,” and I don’t think the literary association is recognizable enough for most people.

I though ‘kill men’ when i read it. Also, I thought the post was going to be about naming a boy when I read the title. I do not know the literary reference - guess I only know her ‘[name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables’ series!
