Thoughts on [name_f]Libby[/name_f] as a stand-alone name?
Ideas for a formal first name for NN [name_f]Libby[/name_f], other than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (and obvious variations like [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f], [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], etc.) or [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]?
I love [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and I could see it working very well on its own, without a longer formal name. I do think it’d be better to balance out the combo with a longer, classic name, just to give her options in the future.
Some names I think [name_f]Libby[/name_f] could work for as a nn include [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or any other [name_f]Lil[/name_f]-name, or something like a name starting in Li- paired with a B middle name… might be kind of a stretch but what about something like [name_f]Livia[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], or [name_u]Linden[/name_u] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], or [name_f]Ligeia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]… there are lots of options here.
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] is so underused in my opinion.
It totally works as a formal name, and besides the names you mentioned, I don’t know of any others that could be instinctively nicknamed [name_f]Libby[/name_f].
I love how cute and spunky [name_f]Libby[/name_f] looks and sounds.
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] is definitely usable as a stand-alone. But, I love [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]!! [name_m]HOW[/name_m] cool would it be to have someone ask if it was for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and she could say, ‘No, it is short for [name_f]Liberty[/name_f].’
I think it works pretty well as a standalone name. There’s a woman on my street called [name_f]Libby[/name_f], and I have no idea if its a nickname or not - nobody ever calls her anything else.
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] as a stand-alone name is lovely! If you do truly feel she needs a fuller name, though, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] might be a fun twist.
Edited to add:
As a stand alone, I really adore it. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is gorgeous. It was originally a nn for Ibb, also Isabel. Libby can really be a full name as its own.
Another suggestion is to go by putting first name and middle name initials together.
Li, B.
L, Ib.
L, I, B. (Two middle names or B being a surname if that’s what you have).
Or something like Lily Bean (bean just being a cute add-on as a nickname rather than an actual middle name) turning into Libby.
I love [name_f]Libby[/name_f], and have her as a stand alone name on my list, so I definitely think it works. She’s quite popular as is, where I live too. I can’t really think of longer forms apart from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Liberty[/name_f].
