So, I’ve had [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] on my list, sort of as a guilty pleasure ,but hubby loves it! It would honor multiple relatives and go well with sister [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. I’m just wondering is it too weird or silly? Hubby doesn’t think so, it’s a flower name just like the popular lily, [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and violet.
What do you think?
I’m also wondering if the [name_m]Christian[/name_m] connection is too strong, as we are Jewish.
Middle name would be [name_f]Louise[/name_f]!
[name_f]Tia[/name_f]!
Cute! Go for it.
I love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]! It’s a little unusual, yes, but I think it’s lovely. I think it goes well with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] as well. Maybe I’m dense but what is the [name_m]Christian[/name_m] connection?
I think it’s cute and spunky. Definitely more out-there than a lot of other flowers, so it could come off as a “hippie” name. I don’t think the religious connotations are that well known, but you’d have to be fine with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a likely nickname.
It’s a great choice! I think it pairs well with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and I don’t think of a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] connection when I hear the name.
Thanks!
The [name_m]Christian[/name_m] connection, according to name berry, is that the marigold was the official flower if the Virgin [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I’m glad to know that is not too strong of a connection.
I’m not crazy about [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a nn, seeing as how [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is such a common name in its own. I’m not crazy about [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] either. I just like the full name, which is a little discouraging because my daughter [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] has a nn tilly, so I was hoping for another nn. Sigh.
I know it’s a berry favorite and my opinion is going to be in the minority but I find this name very silly. Can you imagine having a doctor or lawyer with the name [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]? I wouldn’t take a 30 year old women seriously with that name. That’s just my opinion.
I think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is really cute. Another possible nickname would be [name_f]Mari[/name_f] (pronounced [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-ee instead of [name_f]Mare[/name_f]-ee). Not quite as boring or common as [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and I personally think it’s really cute and would definitely work on a professional adult if she decides [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is too much in the future.
I love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]! I might call her [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]
Definitely go for it.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]'s cute, with the obvious [name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] (or maybe even [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f]?) as nicknames. I only think of the flower, not the christian connection at all.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is great, especially nn [name_f]Mari[/name_f] as a previous poster suggested. And, I would be very happy to meet a doctor or lawyer named [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]! I can imagine a smart, elegant woman carrying the name well, especially with the right last name. (i.e., [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] Bloom sounds a bit like a cartoon character.) Oh and I had never heard of the [name_m]Christian[/name_m] connection, I don’t think you need to worry about that.
Yeah,
That’s exactly my fear. It’s a great name for a creative person, but maybe not for a more serious girl or a Tomboy. I definitely don’t want to typecast her.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this name! Definitely one of my absolute favorites. Its adorable, cute, spunky, and just perfect. I had no idea there was a [name_m]Christian[/name_m] connection and I think the siblings [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are going to be the best named around! Its unusual but in the best way. I think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is beautiful! The nickname [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] is also so cute, or if you want something more “normal” [name_f]Marie[/name_f] would work. I wouldn’t assume the nickname [name_f]Mary[/name_f] automatically or assume any nickname for that matter, and I don’t think its too “out there”, especially with it being a name of a child on the show Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u] (I’ve never saw the show myself though) and I think it has a ton of vintage charm.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is one of my personal favorites. I actually would consider it as a given first name, whereas [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] I would not. Go figure. [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] seems fanciful but yet grounded and respectable to me, and I wouldn’t have trouble with a doctor [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. I have pretty unconventional taste, though.
The Virgin [name_f]Mary[/name_f] - [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] thing this is almost entirely a Catholic association. Evangelical and Reformed Christians are not likely to even know about it. I’ve noticed that almost all references around the official NB pages that label themselves as “[name_m]Christian[/name_m]” actually refer specifically to Catholicism. I wouldn’t bat an eye at meeting a Jewish girl named [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], particularly since [name_f]Golde[/name_f] is seen as a rather stereotypical Jewish/Yiddish name.
I don’t think it’s a silly name. Though, I don’t think it’s a name like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. These names have been used for centuries for years by parents who aren’t trying to choose a nature name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] are chosen without much thought to botany. I do think [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is more a name for people who really love flowers and nature. Not necessarily a “hippie name”, but certainly hippies might choose it. I’ve grown many flowers, but over the past few years I’ve been planting more and more Marigolds of different varieties. This year, it’s all I planted. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the flower. I’d like to see it used by someone who also really loves it.
Since you don’t like the nicknames [name_f]Mari[/name_f]/[name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_m]Gold[/name_m]/[name_f]Goldie[/name_f]/[name_f]Golda[/name_f], I’d choose [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Margarethe[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], or [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] before [name_f]Marigold[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], however, I prefer it in the mn spot.
The only [name_m]Christian[/name_m] reference I see is “[name_f]Mary[/name_f]”, but I honestly don’t see a connection at all.
It’s a beautiful name.
