mazel is an obscure german name I found on my family tree multiple
times and I really
like it.
-it isn’t pronounced like mazel in mazel tov, it’s may-zuhl

I love [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] so I can’t see why Mazel wouldn’t work - I think the two cons are mispronouncing it or else people thinking you’re saying “nasal” bc N and M can be misheard for each other. Hmmm, not sure!
If it’s [name_m]German[/name_m], it would be pronounced exactly like mazel tov. Either way, I’ve only seen it used as a surname.
I like it
I think it’s adorable!!
Mazel is intriguing - I kind of like it, though a bit of me thinks ‘male’ ‘muzzle’ ‘maze’ - maybe that’s just because it’s unfamiliar though
If “mazel tov” didn’t exist it would be great. But since it does exist and is a common enough saying, Mazel is all “mazel tov” to me.
I was about to say (before @Youssarian beat me to it), that Mazel just makes me think of “mazel tov”. Especially since some people do just say “mazel” as a short form. Unfortunately think you would have pronunciation difficulties with people pronouncing it that way, rather than may-zel.
I like it, but seeing it on paper non-Germans will say it wrong.
Would you be open to spelling it [name_f]Mayzel[/name_f] or Maizel? Might be more phonetically clear.
[name_f]May[/name_f]
Mayzie/Maizie
Zully
Would all be cute nickname options.
I think the pronunciation of may-zuhl is cute, it reminds me of [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] a little bit. I do think the mazel tov pronunciation is dominant in this case though. Maybe if you spelled it like Maizel, [name_f]Maisel[/name_f], or [name_f]Mayzel[/name_f] it would be easier to get the pronunciation you want.
Oof I didn’t think of that
thanks though
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname Zully!
Yeah I also think of Mazel [name_m]Tov[/name_m]
so maybe not…
