I don’t have much time for this post, but what would you think of these character names if you were reading them in a book?
Main Character: [name]Andromeda[/name] “[name]Andie[/name]” [name]Hall[/name]- Named after a constellation, she is the smartest girl in school. Chinese-American. 14 years old.
[name]Andie[/name]'s little brother: [name]Maxwell[/name] “[name]Max[/name]” [name]Hall[/name]- Adopted. Very mischievous. 11 years old.
[name]Andie[/name]'s best friend: [name]Peyton[/name] [name]Winter[/name]- An honest, polite yet athletic girl. She lives on a farm. 14 years old. Her little sister’s name is [name]Ashlyn[/name], and her twin brother’s name is [name]Patrick[/name].
I like all of them, and [name]Andie[/name] for me would be nice to see in a book. However, I would not like to see [name]Peyton[/name] in a book, or a story, I just don’t think it’s particulary good for writing. [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name] is just basically the usual “I’m going to name twins with the same letter and sort of the same sounding names!” I think that twins don’t need to have their names have the first letter and sort of sound the same. Heck, look at [name]Fred[/name] and [name]George[/name] Weasley!
I would suggest getting rid of the whole sib set thing with [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name]. For me, that would just be horrible to read. Maybe something like [name]Patrick[/name] and [name]Marissa[/name]? I don’t know, that was a bad suggestion. Or maybe change [name]Patrick[/name]'s name? I don’t know, whatever you want. [name]Just[/name] as a fellow reader and writer, I wouldn’t want to see that.
Everything else is pretty good, sorry if I was a little harsh! Good luck on your story!

I know, twins with similar names bugs me too, but I thought it would fit, since their parents just seem like they would do that… Also, I can’t imagine this character with any other name than [name]Peyton[/name]. I don’t know why, but it just seems very country but classy at the same time…[name]Marissa[/name] isn’t a bad idea though.
I like all of these but maybe have a few characters with quite popular names to balance the unusual ones out. I wouldn’t change [name]Peyton[/name] but I would change [name]Patrick[/name].

[name]Max[/name] [name]Hall[/name] is fine, bit boring compared to [name]Andromeda[/name] but not bad. What about another constellation? Caelum nn [name]Cal[/name] or even [name]Leo[/name] to keep it simple.
[name]Peyton[/name] [name]Winter[/name] --I agree with PP that I’m not big on [name]Peyton[/name]. If you want that same feel and a match for [name]Patrick[/name] what about [name]Paisley[/name]? But if you’re committed to it, then stick.
The other names are fine, though I’ve never heard of the name [name]Madelina[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] [name]Marie[/name] sounds like a sugar overdose so I hope her character is the opposite.
No problem, it was my pleasure! Now, if you really just can’t imagine the character without the name [name]Peyton[/name] than use it! If it fits PERFECTLY, than it’s like a sign from the heavens and cosmos or God or something. However, if the parents would just do that, than that would be an exception, and most readers would understand if you mentioned it.
But if you do want to change the sibset a bit, and you’re not stubbornly set on [name]Patrick[/name], than you should just change that. However, like I said, if that’s the parents’ fault, than it’s not really a big deal, and people would understand.
About [name]Max[/name] compared to [name]Andromeda[/name]-- I’m planning on:
a.) coming up with a great backstory for the name [name]Andromeda[/name]
OR
b.) saying that the parents loved constellation names, but didn’t want to change [name]Max[/name]'s original name from when he was adopted

I think [name]Peyton[/name] [name]Winter[/name] is a bit unrealistic, as is [name]Rose[/name] [name]Marie[/name] Dupree (very [name]Mary[/name] [name]Sue[/name] seeming, also doesn’t match with sister [name]Mira[/name]), [name]Brynn[/name] McCloud is just too much.
I do love [name]Andie[/name] and [name]Max[/name], and [name]Andromeda[/name] is fine since it’s for a reason.
Also, [name]Patrick[/name] is lovely!
[name]Just[/name] a note: this book isn’t entirely realistic, so…yea…
[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Rose[/name] [name]Marie[/name] would be better if I smushed it together ([name]Rosemarie[/name] or [name]Rosemary[/name])?? This character is a diva. Very dramatic…
I also don’t think [name]Mira[/name] is the best choice for that character. Any other ideas? This character is a bit of a “dumb blonde” stereotype, she is in the same class as [name]Max[/name] at school.
[name]Rosemarie[/name] is much better imo. [name]Rosemary[/name] is even better. The character may be dramatic, however, her parents named her without knowing her personality, so the name can’t be too tied to her dramatic personality, imo. That’s how I name my characters, with the parent’s naming styles/reasons in mind.
Yeah, I never would’ve imagine [name]Mira[/name] to be that type of character!

I think I’ll do [name]Rosemarie[/name], all as one name. I really like [name]Briony[/name] and [name]Dinah[/name] for the younger sister. I want something cute and youthful…possibly something with a very cute nn?
