I really want a name for a baby girl that is strong, can stand alone or with a nn, has an interesting meaning/history, and is not popular or gaining rapid popularity (def below top 2000 and preferably below top 3000).
I have been trying to refine my list. Here are names both my partner and I agree on. WDYT???
[name_f]Alouette[/name_f] – [name_m]French[/name_m] for “lark”
Celandine – A lovely flower name.
[name_f]Crescentia[/name_f] – It means “increasing, ascending, thriving” and we like “[name_f]Crescent[/name_f]”, too.
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] – I had heard this name before and really liked it but we started loving it after hearing the song “[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]” by Kadhja Bonet. Also a flower name.
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] – Ger = “spear” and trude = “maiden”.
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] – I have read a few different meanings and origins for this name.
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] – We love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]. It has a long and interesting history and sounds very strong, which we like. But it is in the top 3000 and I am worried it may be increasing in popularity over the next decade.
My favorite is [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] – gorgeous! I also really like [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], but I feel like pronunciation might be an issue for some.
[name_f]Alouette[/name_f] is pretty. Celandine and [name_f]Crescentia[/name_f] feel a little out there, imho, but that may be what you’re going for. [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] definitely sounds kinda clunky to me.
Also, I wouldn’t be too worried about [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]'s “popularity” – top 3000 is hardly common.
[name_f]Alouette[/name_f] is so beautiful. It’s elegant, sophisticated, and laced with tradition. It definitely has my vote. Other than [name_f]Alouette[/name_f], I also like [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] and [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]. I wouldn’t worry about [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] being too popular, top 3000 isn’t very high.
YESSS I had to comment because Kadhja Bonet is one of my favorite artists. Beautiful song and beautiful name. I also love [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] from your list. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the name [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is cute and could be a nickname?? I also like [name_f]Isolde[/name_f].
I have 4 girls my last is named [name_f]Alouette[/name_f] I love it ppl often mispronounce as owelette but doenst bother me. I love [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] but didn’t use because older daughter had a friend w that name. My #3 is named [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] and #4 named [name_f]Boheme[/name_f] will suggest those names too u too.
