I know it’s a bit of a “love it or hate it” name, but everyone I’ve mentioned it to seems to hate it! DH and I both really like it, so I’m just looking for a few more opinions.
If you dislike it, could you please tell me what it is you dislike specifically? Common complaints I’ve heard are that it’s unfeminine, an old lady’s name, a disgusting food/colour, or too close to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] interested to see what people’s reasons generally are.
The combo I like is [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]. I know both names are quite abrupt but I actually like the slightly clunky, stilted sound of it. Any other thoughts on this as a combo? Or other suggestions for a middle with [name_f]Olive[/name_f]?
I absolutely love the name [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I think it is refreshing, bright, and spunky! While [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] is not my style, [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] is not terrible. A few other ideas…
I dislike it for the food reason, plus the fact I think it sounds cutesy, and it doesn’t age well/have any substance to it. However, it does remind me of the [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_m]Stone[/name_m]'s character in the movie Easy A, and she was portrayed as smart and witty, so that helps my opinion of it. I don’t despise it, but it’s not something I’d choose personally.

@vestigesofsummer thanks for explaining your reasons for disliking it. I definitely understand the food reason but I’m surprised you find it cutesy, because I see it as more of a clunky old-lady kind of name. But then I’ve only known one [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and she was a friend of my grandma’s, so maybe that’s why.
Any other opinions on [name_f]Olive[/name_f] as cutesy vs not cute enough?
I find her sweet as well, but not saccharine or syrupy. I get the old lady vibe, but I have to remind myself it’s there.
I too enjoy the slightly stilted [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], it’s a combo I love saying, something about the shape of the mouth and the O/OU sounds and the V and K sounds to spice it up a little. It reminds me of a bubble, or the sound a stone makes when tossed into a river. [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] has excellent balance between playful and serious, [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is much the same. I think they’re excellent together ^^
