WDYT of Roger?

What do you think of the name [name]Roger[/name] for a boy? My husband likes the nn [name]Dodge[/name] but I found out online that this is actually a nickname for [name]Roger[/name]. So what do you think of [name]Roger[/name]?

I think it’s a good name, and I’m always surprised it isn’t used more frequently. It may be associated with the older [name]Baby[/name] Boomers. I think some people don’t use it because it doesn’t seem like a kid’s name, since the nicknames aren’t obvious. I think you guys have surmounted that issue.

Yeah! I really think we might use it. It seems like a respectable enough one.

I was surprised to meet an extended family member named [name]Roger[/name] (after his grandpa.) He was around 6 years old I think. At first I thought the name was an odd choice, but it grew on me. I think similar reactions are probable for anyone who names a young person [name]Roger[/name] these days. Really, it’s not a bad name. But I definitely agree it has a strong association with the older generation.

That’s exactly what I was thinking…but I was thinking it is definitely doable. Some names are in limbo and not meant for comeback. But…some names have a chance in my opinion and I was trying to decide if [name]Roger[/name] does or not. My husband really either wants us to name our next son if we have one [name]Roger[/name] or [name]Daniel[/name] (after him) and I think we could pull off the [name]Dodge[/name] nickname much better with [name]Roger[/name] but I don’t think it would be that much of a stretch to call him [name]Dodge[/name] if we named him, say, [name]Daniel[/name] [name]Roger[/name]…? Maybe?

I don’t know, but I am really starting to like the name [name]Roger[/name]. But it can sound like a kind of joke of a name. For instance, when we were getting a dog earlier this year and were considering a bull dog, we were deciding (as a joke) between the names [name]Roger[/name] and [name]Stanley[/name]. This was before we starting liking the name, obviously. I just hope people don’t think we are telling them a sick joke when we announce our sons name…(if and when we have another son)…

I like [name]Roger[/name] nn [name]Dodge[/name]. …Though I do think of a [name]Dodge[/name] pickup truck. Well, if [name]Dash[/name] is ok, why not [name]Dodge[/name]?
[name]Roger[/name] has bite. [name]Roger[/name] Rabbit. Apparently it’s [name]German[/name], though I think of it as vaguely French. The Norwegian version is [name]Roar[/name]! [name]How[/name] cool is that?
I hear what you’re saying about the irony factor. The “it’s so square it’s hip” kinda thing. I think [name]Roger[/name] is just slightly square, but also very respectable. That squareness could be really cute on a little boy. It’s not like naming your kid [name]Obadiah[/name], [name]Dick[/name], Poindexter…

I love it. Whenever we watch tennis, I always suggest [name]Roger[/name] to my dh. [name]Roger[/name] Federer is awesome and doesn’t make me think of someone old at all.
