WDYT of Rune?

[name]Rune[/name] -roon as in “ancient rune” WDYT? I’m not too serious about it, just wanted to know other’s opinions. I’ve started taking an interest in sweet, vintagey names like [name]Genevieve[/name]. Could anyone suggest some more? and no “old lady” names please, I don’t like them (:

Too close to Ruin for me. But I like [name]Rue[/name] which might be an old lady name?
[name]June[/name] is nice.

Definitely makes me think of ruin and a lot of people might mis-hear it and think you named your baby Ruin. It also reminds me of RuneScape a MMORPG my brother and cousin used to play.

lol, all I think of is [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls. There was an episode where she goes on a blind date with a guy named [name]Rune[/name] and he’s super strange and doesn’t seem to realize that his name is unique.

I agree with the suggestion of Rue, I think it’s cute, especially as a middle.

[name]Rune[/name] is definitely a middle aged/old [name]MALE[/name] name, which I honestly don’t like. Something like [name]Gudrun[/name], Jorun, or Sigrun would be the female equivalent.

YES! It was driving me crazy that I couldnt figure out where I had heard the name [name]Rune[/name] before! Thank you!

[name]Rue[/name] is sweet. [name]Rune[/name]…not so much on a girl.

I don’t categorize [name]Rune[/name] as a vintage name I just categorize it as a name related to historical artifacts. I guess if you are into stuff like that it can be a nice name, but it isn’t my style.

I like it, but prefer the Scandinavian 2 syllable prn.

I’ll go against the grain here, but I really like [name]Rune[/name]. It’s unusual, and I think gives a nice way to the same basic sound as [name]Rue[/name] without the really terrible meaning. (To [name]Rue[/name] = to regret bitterly.)

I do see where sounding a bit like ruin could be an issue, but I still think it’s usable, especially in the middle spot.

Yup, [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls. That’s what I think of when I hear “[name]Rune[/name].” He was definitely weirdo. lol

It could be cute, but that association ruins it for me.

“[name]Rue[/name]” also means “street” in French, fyi.

no pun intended :stuck_out_tongue:

I like it quite a bit. I’d never thought of it as a name before, but it’s got sounds similar to vintage style names like [name]Ruth[/name] and [name]June[/name], which I think is why it strikes that way. It sounds quite nice.

[name]Rune[/name] is adorable! I love it - its vintage feel and uniqueness makes it really desirable  I think it could suit a boy or a girl, tbh. I don’t watch [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls, so I don’t have that connection, but it reminds me of the ancient Runes that carried so much meaning to cultures way back when! Definitely a fab name

I did know of the [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls character (I loved that show! [name]Lorelei[/name] was a favorite name of mine back then too, haha) but I mainly associate it with a boy name regardless. I do like it a lot as a boy name though.

Ha ha - I also think of the character from Gilmore Girls!

If you like the sound of [name]Rune[/name], but think [name]Rue[/name] is too trendy, how about [name]Ruth[/name]? I think it actually has a lot of charm and would fit in well with the current vintage revival trend. Plus I think the nickname [name]Ruthie[/name] is just so sweet!

[name]Rune[/name] for a girl would be okay, if it didn’t have such a long history as a boys name in Scandinavia.
Runa is the feminine variant, Runi the unisex.
Svea mentioned some names containing the -run part, she omitted some of my favourites Audrun, Eirun and Solrun.

Like the other Scandinavians I would like to chime in:

Please don’t name a girl [name]Rune[/name], it is a boys name! Like naming a girl [name]William[/name]…

Runa is the traditional female form and pronunciation is more intuitive and you could still use the nn [name]Rue[/name].

I think [name]Rune[/name] sounds more masculine…
