I recently fell in love again with Salomé, prn. [name_m]French[/name_m] as: SAH-low-may, what do you think?
I’m considering it, as well as [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], how does Salomé compare? The accent is not an issue where I live, other [name_m]French[/name_m] names have been used here for decades.
To be honest, I think [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] is the best on your list, followed by [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. All lovely.
With [name_f]Salome[/name_f], the first thing I think of is the [name_m]John[/name_m] the Baptist story. Maybe that association isn’t as strong for some, but I still think of salamander or salami. It’s really too bad. [name_f]Salome[/name_f] (with the three syllables) is one of those names I really want to like but can’t.
I like [name_f]Salome[/name_f]. It is beautiful and probably my fave on your list although the other three are all very lovely.
I’m very partial to [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] lately. nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u] seems popular but I’m not into it…
Anyway, I don’t think a young [name_f]Salome[/name_f] would get much judgement or teasing from kids (unfortunately youth + Bible knowledge are not a common pairing these days) but she might get some adults questioning the wisdom in her name.
But that’s with any name, to each his own.
For some reason I thought of halloumi. It looks really nice written down, but it doesn’t sound as good when I say it (sorry). Although I’m so happy I said it right; at least I learnt something in [name_m]French[/name_m] lessons :). I really like [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], and [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] is pretty cool.
Mmm in craving salami and halloumi now salami is not allowed when you’re pregnant though I think.
I’m not religious myself and live in a very secular country, therefore the religious connotations don’t bother me. However the salami-teasing potential… Needs some thought.
It’s interesting how most people here associate Salomé with the story of [name_m]John[/name_m] the Baptist, so the name has a connotation akin to [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f]. In Portugal Salomé is a traditional Catholic name because of St Salomé, one of the followers of [name_m]Jesus[/name_m].
I think it’s lovely, especially with [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Aurora[/name_f] feels quite… homely(?) in comparison, but still they work quite well)
It does sort of remind me of the Muslim phrase ‘’[name_m]Salam[/name_m] Alaikum’’ for some reason.
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] I like, but too popular here in the 70’s
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] too much associated with name berry persona, but nice name
[name_f]Renata[/name_f]- not a fan
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] - love but feels more frilly than my names
[name_f]Sidonia[/name_f] - a famous cartoon character, and not a great one
[name_f]Flavia[/name_f] - love this, also love the [name_f]Flavia[/name_f] de [name_u]Luce[/name_u] novels
[name_f]Justina[/name_f]- too much a word
[name_f]Marise[/name_f]- like this one!
Verema - mmm not sure About this one.
[name_f]Paola[/name_f] - too popular as [name_f]Paula[/name_f] in the 60’s
[name_f]Vincenza[/name_f]- too male turned female for me
[name_f]Samara[/name_f] - like
[name_f]Ardella[/name_f] - never heard this one before, not sure how I feel about this one
[name_f]Gracia[/name_f] - pretty but too princessy.
