WDYT of Shaw?

I’ve always found this appealing, but I saw this toted on Nameberry’s fb a little bit ago, and was reminded how much I love it. It was a name (albeit surname) used in one of my absolute favorite series growing up, about a young girl in 1900 who solved mysteries with her best friend–she was brave, courageous, smart, spunky, cool. She was real with her struggles, and I identified with her so much–probably because she was part [name_u]Cherokee[/name_u], like my grandfather insisted I was, and I loved the blend of mystery, history, love, and girly things.

I don’t know if a son would appreciate the reference to the series, but I certainly do! WDYT of [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]? Could you see it on a little boy? What MNs would you pair it with? [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] were my first thoughts, but they almost feel like filler (or at least predictable) choices. I’m wondering if there’s something more exciting or unexpected out there.

Thanks, Berries!

For me, when I hear [name_u]Shaw[/name_u], I think of the Shawshank Redemption movie, but that’s in no way a bad thing imo

I think [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] could easily work on a boy, and on a grown man, with its similarity to [name_u]Shaun[/name_u]…although it may be confused for that sometimes
As for your two combos so far, I think [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] flows better than [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] somehow, but agree that they are (or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is, at least) quite a typical boys MN

Suggestions:
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Cassian[/name_m]
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m]
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]

I don’t mind it, especially knowing your connection and feelings about it, makes it special and would be a great boys name. However I do agree that Elijah isn’t the best fit (unless of course it has a special meaning) I find that the “shaw” sounds and the “jah” in Elijah are just too similar. Are there any other family names you like? Depending on your last name there are many you can pick

Shaw Alexander works well

Unfortunately [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] is my cable and internet company, or else I would really like it! [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is a nice combo.

I like it…

Never heard it before but I think it is awesome! And I am totally crushing on fullabeans suggestion of [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Evander[/name_m]- I’ve liked [name_m]Evander[/name_m] for a long time but could never pair it. You guys are awesome.
Maybe also:
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_u]Robin[/name_u]
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]

Thanks, everyone! Unfortunately, I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Evander[/name_m], or I would think [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Evander[/name_m] would be super cool. I liked [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m], and [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] best of the suggestions–I’m also thinking about [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] as maybe a middle name? Something like [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] or something.

Sometimes I worry that it would work awkwardly in real life. “[name_u]Shawn[/name_u]? Did you say “shawl”? [name_m]How[/name_m] do you spell that? Well, that’s… unique.”
