I’ll admit, I’m curious! For many years, I was so dead-set on changing my name (and probably to [name]Scarlet[/name]) but I’ve finally come round to adoring my name (especially with my last name, which just sounds cool). But recently, I’ve started meeting other Shelbys and none of them are like any of the others or me, so my perception of the name has gone askew.
When you hear the name, who do you imagine? A little girl with dimples? A southern belle or a successful woman in [name]New[/name] [name]York[/name] City? Pretty, intelligent, snobby? A housewife, an artist, a secretary, your aunt? If you met a [name]Shelby[/name] right now, who would she be? More importantly, is this a name that represents me and that I can be proud to use professionally?
[name]Both[/name] of the [name]Shelby[/name]'s I know are in high school, but, I don’t know what I’d think of. A [name]Shelby[/name] could be whoever she wanted to be
I know one [name]Shelby[/name] who is the sweetest thing to walk this earth. She is 21 years old and is sweet, bubbly and just the sweetest girl ever.
Then i also know [name]Shelby[/name] who i hate with everything in me! She hates me and I don’t like her. She is one of those people that hates the world and everything in it…not a pleasant person at ALL.
So i have both a negative and a positive association with the name.
I think that the name isn’t what matters, it’s the person with the name.
If you are a horrible person, people will have a negative association with your name. But if you are a good person who presents herself nicely, people with associate that with the name.
does this make sense?
I don’t like it at all. It’s not a very strong, or abundant name to me. It’s not pretty either.
It’s also now forever tied to negative events in my SO’s life, so I will definitely never be a fan of it.
I’ve known many Shelbys. [name]One[/name] was a dog, two were teens my age; both were rather quiet, a tad demure, one was artistic and in love with design and photography, they were both very caring and kind, chubby cheeks, lovely personalities, long hair (one was blonde the other was brunette), and I know of a baby twin named [name]Shelby[/name]. She was the smaller twin and less healthy than her twin, [name]Jade[/name].
I see a [name]Shelby[/name] as a secretary, behind the scenes kind of person, very kind.
I’ve known both male and female Shelbys… It’s an alright name, but it’s kind of dated in my mind. There’s nothing wrong with it though. The male [name]Shelby[/name] I know I didn’t like very much when we were younger, but he got nicer and funnier over the years. The girl [name]Shelby[/name] was popular, cute, and blonde.
My name is [name]Shelby[/name]! I’ve struggled with it too. I don’t like the way [name]Shelby[/name] fits so closely with the trends of my age group. I feel like it tends to blend in and get lost with all the Kelseys, Kinseys, Whitneys, Courtneys, you get the picture. But I’ve come to realize that I love it for its self. It’s a great name with a lot of history. [name]Shelby[/name] County is where [name]Memphis[/name] is. I definitely think of it as a southern name though.
The Shelbys I’ve known have been all over the map in terms of age, personality, temperament, looks, and occupation. I totally agree that a [name]Shelby[/name] could be whoever she wanted to be.
The only one I ever knew was super skinny, average looking, and kind of mean. Despite that, I still think “girl next door in a tee shirt and jeans who likes bonfires on the beach” when I see the name.
