WDYT of Tennyson?

I just came across it and find it kind of interesting. It hits on a couple big trends but I haven’t heard it considered. It’s got a nice sound, I think. What about nicknames? [name]Tenny[/name] seems a little weird, but maybe [name]Teddy[/name] could work.

I like it very much. I knew a girl with the name, but I can see it for a boy equally well or better.

Adventurous, yes, but I rarely rule out a name as too much so. I wouldn’t use it myself, but wouldn’t feel too odd having to say it to someone.

i like tennyson but not the nn ten or tennny

[name]Tennyson[/name]…hmmm…

I kind of like it! I love “son” names so thats probably why. Although, i think i prefer the name spelled with one N and an I, [name]Tenison[/name]. To me it seems a lot cleaner, and actually, even more masculine!

[name]Hope[/name] this helps!

I like [name]Tennyson[/name] and it is much too dignified to be shortened.

The nn of [name]Tenny[/name] reminds me of [name]Dennis[/name] the Menace.

[name]Elliot[/name] [name]Tennyson[/name] Surname would be great.

People will assume you named your son after [name]Alfred[/name] [name]Lord[/name] [name]Tennyson[/name], which isn’t a bad thing. It would bug me, however, if whenever I introduced myself people would ask, “like the poet?” “no my mom just liked the sound.”

I think it’s cool, but it’s a lot of name. If you have to have a nickname but don’t like Ten or [name]Tenny[/name] than maybe you should use something else. I agree that people will think you are using the name because of the poet.

I really like it. It’s very interesting and handsome.

I like it for both a girl or boy you could always call them [name]Sonny[/name]

I second this. I don’t think I could do it unless I was a big [name]Tennyson[/name] fan. Otherwise, it’s a bit awkward.

On the other hand, it does have a very handsome ring to it

I agree with you guys, you’d have to be a big fan of the poet to use this name. And I’m not, particularly. I wouldn’t use it, but I think it’s got a nice sound and rhythm. I’d be excited to meet one, though.

[name]Tennyson[/name], spelled [name]Tenison[/name], is my last name! I think it’s weird that someone without that surname would use it as a first name on their baby…use a last name from your own family tree. Or if you must use it, at least be a fan of [name]Alfred[/name] [name]Lord[/name] [name]Tennyson[/name].

I like [name]Tennyson[/name], and if you like that name, you might also like Hennessy.

[name]Tennyson[/name] is my current number one boys name, the list of my top five is below and changes daily lol! But I love this name for its’ poetic background and, of course, seeing the adorable photos of [name]Russell[/name] Crowe’s little [name]Tenny[/name]. My husband is on the verge of giving into my will, but it may take a killer nn like [name]Tyson[/name], [name]Teddy[/name], [name]Tenny[/name] or [name]Ty[/name] and a carefully crafted middle name…

  1. [name]Tennyson[/name] [name]James[/name] Blackwood (mn I also like are [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Buster[/name], and [name]Michael[/name])
  2. [name]Jiminy[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] Blackwood
  3. [name]Buster[/name] [name]James[/name] Blackwood
  4. [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Brady[/name] Blackwood
  5. [name]Montgomery[/name] [name]Aiden[/name] Blackwood

[name]How[/name] neat! Of your list, [name]Tennyson[/name] [name]James[/name] is my favorite!

[name]Alfred[/name] [name]Lord[/name] [name]Tennyson[/name] is my favorite so I have always liked the name. I would only consider it for a middle name though. I think it would be a pain to have [name]Tennyson[/name] as your first name.

From your list I like [name]Tennyson[/name] [name]James[/name] Blackwood the best. I don’t like [name]Buster[/name] or [name]Benjamin[/name] because of the alliteration with your last name, and I don’t like [name]Montgomery[/name] because it is super long… I know it is just one extra syllable but it makes a big difference. [name]Montgomery[/name] is my boyfriends last name… it is pretty cumbersome and a [name]PITA[/name] to write out even as a last name. I sort of like [name]Jiminy[/name] in an odd guilty pleasure sort of way, but I would never choose this name since it is SO strongly associated with the cricket. I can only imagine the never ending commentary your son would have to endure upon introductions. Ugh! (But I like [name]Jim[/name] Blackwood a LOT!)

More on [name]Tennyson[/name]: Is it pronounced Ten-NEE-son or Ten-NIH-son? I much prefer the pronunciation [name]Tennyson[/name] like [name]Dennison[/name], I think Ten-NEE-son sounds awkward and … well, I don’t like it. I really, really like the nickname [name]Tenny[/name]!!! Yes, this name is growing on me the more I think about it… I think your husband will feel the same way.

[name]Tennyson[/name] [name]James[/name] Blackwood
AKA
[name]Tenny[/name] Blackwood
Ten Blackwood
[name]Tennis[/name]/Tennys Blackwood - Of course he will probably never want to actually pick up a tennis racket due to his name… lol =)
TJ Blackwood
[name]Ennis[/name] Blackwood
[name]Jim[/name] Blackwood – This name sounds awesome… like a bad ass cowboy! YEEEE HAWWW! =)

[name]Montgomery[/name] is my favorite on your list. [name]Monty[/name] is so cute.

I am so glad the name is starting to grow on so many of you! So far my closest and most honest friends have all agreed that this is such a perfect name, especially with the increasing interest in “son” names. I have a hard time thinking that the nn [name]Tenny[/name] would last far beyond the childhood years. My husband likes the idea of calling him “T.J.” ([name]Tennyson[/name] [name]James[/name]) in his later years, which I don’t mind at all, but would probably personally always call him by his full name. I love that the meaning of the name in Greek is God of Wine after the God, [name]Dionysus[/name], as I am part Greek/Spanish and English/[name]German[/name] (Euro-mutt) heritage. In English, it means [name]Son[/name] of [name]Dennis[/name]. My mother-in-law is a [name]Denise[/name] and I plan to tell her that it means, grandson of [name]Denise[/name] lol! The pronunciation is Ten - ih- sun, as in [name]Alfred[/name], [name]Lord[/name] [name]Tennyson[/name]. So far this has been my top name now for over two months and that is the longest yet, so I have a real good feeling about this. I just have to get this past my parents and I really think I am going to wait until I know if it is a boy or a girl. I will be crushed if they don’t like it and by then I figure it will be too late to start over again…
