WDYT of the name Avi?

I’m a trans guy who is looking to change his name. This is my 3rd time changing it so I’m a little apprehensive. What are your guys’ thoughts on the name [name_u]Avi[/name_u]. The last name I had was pretty feminine so I didn’t think it felt like me.

Give me all your honest opinions. Thanks guys.

I think it’s a nice name! I will say it reads as more feminine to me, but I’m biased because I do know an [name_u]Avi[/name_u] who happens to be a girl. You’d probably get some people asking you what it’s short for, since it looks quite nicknamey, but it’s on trend with other short-and-sweet names that are gaining popularity at the moment!

[name_f]My[/name_f] friend’s brother is [name_u]Avi[/name_u]. I thought it was a nickname at first, but it’s his full name. It’s grown on me!

I read [name_u]Avi[/name_u] as 100% girl. I also think it’s a bit too informal to be a full name.

I know a boy [name_u]Avi[/name_u]. It seems very unisex to me.

When I hear [name_u]Avi[/name_u] I immediately think of the children’s author, but that’s probably because I work at a library! [name_u]Avi[/name_u] the author is a man.

[name_f]My[/name_f] primary association is the male author [name_u]Avi[/name_u]. I think it does sound more unisex.

avi reads as more feminine to me, unfortunately, and i agree with other posters that people would probably ask what it’s short for a lot.

if you’re open to a full name, maybe avery “avi”? avery is more popular for girls right now in the us but it’s still popular for boys, too.

It definitely reads more feminine to be because I’ve loved it as a nn for [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] for a long time!

But I also think it could be a great nn for more masculine [name_m]Evander[/name_m], another favourite of mine!

Best of luck on your new name journey!!

[name_u]Avi[/name_u] is nice, with a bit of kick, a bit of fun, a bit of gentleness, but also feels substantial and strong. It doesn’t read too feminine to me (but perhaps that’s because I’ve known a male [name_u]Avi[/name_u], along with boys called [name_u]Rishi[/name_u], [name_m]Ravi[/name_m], [name_u]Ali[/name_u], [name_u]Amari[/name_u] etc, that it doesn’t lean that way)

Great name, albeit short. But it has a beautiful elemental meaning “bringing sun, air, light and warmth into the world”, as well as “father”.

There’s also:
[name_u]Aven[/name_u] (pleasant)
Avious (master of their own destiny)
Averett (strong/brave)
[name_m]Avidor[/name_m] (father of many)
just in case you wanted something a lil longer.

[name_u]Avi[/name_u] is cool! I wouldn’t assume any gender for an [name_u]Avi[/name_u], it’s completely neutral to me.

The only [name_u]Avi[/name_u] I have heard the former singer for the group pentatonix. He was the bass singer, low voice and a black burley beard. When I first heard his name, I thought it was more gender neutral, but now I associate it with a lovely male voice. So I think people are going to have different assumptions based on their previous encounter/lack of encounter with the name.

It’s very sharp, simple and cool! It does lean slightly feminine to me, unfortunately. But I wouldn’t be surprised in the least to see if on a guy!

If I heard [name_u]Avi[/name_u] I’d assume a man, probably of Jewish/Israeli background.
