It’s Latin and means “timekeeper.”
Any opinions?

Hmm I prefer [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] to [name_m]Horace[/name_m].
[name_m]Horace[/name_m] has such a cool meaning but it does immediately make me think of [name_m]Horace[/name_m] [name_u]Holly[/name_u] from [name_m]Rider[/name_m] Haggard’s She and [name_m]Horace[/name_m] Slughorn from [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] so I do very much picture an old man I’m afraid
It is a cool meaning, but kind of an old manish, clunky name. I concur that my first thought is [name_m]Horace[/name_m] Slughorn from the HP series.
HOWEVER! I think it is a really fun pathway to the nickname [name_u]Ace[/name_u]
I think its cute!
It fits in the category that [name_m]Chester[/name_m] and [name_m]Linus[/name_m] are in, which are on the rise all of a sudden.
The meaning is interesting but the name itself is unpleasant sounding.
[name_f]My[/name_f] first association is the corporation, [name_m]Horace[/name_m] Mann, and second, the school in [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_u]York[/name_u] by the same name with dozens of the terrible abuse scandals (and more still coming to light).
Not trying to rain on your parade because it is a nice sounding name, just wanted to make sure you didn’t fall in love with the name without knowing all the associations.
I think [name_m]Horace[/name_m] is a lovely name! I also love the variation [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] as well!
Horace is in my top 5 and I LOVE IT. I heard it in a book that took place in the 1800’s and it has a calm, vintage sound.
I instantly think of Horace Slughorn, like some other folks here!! It’s definitely a very vintage or “old man” name to me, but I love vintage. Could be really cute on a little boy, and would definitely suit him as he grows!
To me it sounds too clunky and old manish plus I can’t get around the “whore” sound I just have a hard time seeing this one back in use even though the meaning is cool
Hard pass.
WARNING not a nice word below
All I can hear is Whore
Also makes me think of having a sore throat, aka being hoarse
It’s just an all around no for me personally. [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] is much better to me
To be honest, I’m not a fan, but I can see the appeal! It definitely has some stylistic overlap with the “clunky cool” names coming back into fashion. I like the meaning, but I don’t love the sound or look of the name.
Unfortunately, all I can think about is the teasing potential. This name might be wearable in some communities/locations, but in my community I don’t think it would have a good reception.
I prefer [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] (think Hornblower) or the Italian [name_m]Orazio[/name_m].
