WDYT of these Alexander combos?

We’re still pretty set on [name]William[/name] [name]Balthazar[/name] if this baby is a boy, but lately I’ve been thinking it couldn’t hurt to have a back-up name in case he doesn’t seem like a [name]William[/name]. (Translation: I’m sad that we’ve already decided on our names and want to talk about them some more!) Our second choice (and probable future brother) is [name]Alexander[/name], and these are some of the combinations I’ve been kicking around:

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Blaise[/name] - [name]Blasius[/name] is a very old family name (my great-great-great grandfather).

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Crispin[/name] - I love [name]Crispin[/name], and DH doesn’t mind it for a middle. I think it’s a cool twist on hubby’s middle [name]Christopher[/name]. My current favorite.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Ephraim[/name] - Saw this name on today’s blog and kinda fell in love.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Gideon[/name] - Been crushing on [name]Gideon[/name] lately.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Gregory[/name] - I just think this combo is so handsome and distinguished!

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Julian[/name] - [name]Julius[/name] was the name of a great-uncle who acted more like a grandfather to me since both my grandfathers died before I was born.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Raphael[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Raphael[/name]!

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] - [name]Sebastian[/name] was a contender for first name, but we’re not really fond of any of the nicknames. It would be nice to use it as middle name instead.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Valentin[/name]/[name]Valentine[/name] - Hubby and I actually met on [name]Valentine[/name]'s [name]Day[/name], and he proposed on that day a year later, so it’s definitely significant to us.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Vincent[/name] - [name]Vincent[/name] is another name I’ve been crushing on lately.

What do you all think about these? Any favorites or dislikes? (BTW, the last name is one syllable, and [name]Blaise[/name] sounds fine with it.) Thanks!

New combos:
Alexander Edmund
Alexander Edward
Alexander Malachi
Alexander Orpheus

Well, you have great taste  My top two boy names are also [name]William[/name] & [name]Alexander[/name]

I totally love every combo you’ve got there, except for [name]Blaise[/name] & [name]Ephraim[/name]. I just do not like those names personally  And WOW, it’s really hard to pick a favourite. I’ll have to have 3: [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Julian[/name], [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Crispin[/name] & [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Valentin[/name]. But they’re all so handsome and would all work with [name]William[/name] [name]Balthazar[/name] for a brother! Congrats on picking fantastic names

Thanks! And actually, [name]Benjamin[/name] is our choice if we have a third boy, so our taste in boys’ names is pretty much the same. Is [name]Dominic[/name] or [name]Nicholas[/name] in your fourth spot? 'Cause if it is, that would just be amazingly freaky. ([name]Nicholas[/name] is actually my favorite, but hubby vetoed it due to similarity with a nephew’s name.)

[name]William[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] are such lovely name. [name]Both[/name] are strong, classic and make a great sib-set. I really like both [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Crispin[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Gideon[/name]. [name]Both[/name] would be great with [name]William[/name] [name]Balthazar[/name].

Cool! Never come across anyone with such a similar taste to me  But my fourth spot is a bit of a battleground- [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Maximilian[/name] & [name]Henry[/name] are all fighting for position  I do love [name]Nicholas[/name] though and it’s somewhere in my top 10. I like [name]Dominic[/name] as well but I’ve known a fair few so it’s further down the list.

What nicknames would you give a [name]William[/name] or [name]Alexander[/name], if any? I think plain old [name]Will[/name] and [name]Alec[/name] are my favourites at the mo

[name]Alexander[/name] is my number one name so I love this thread! Haha.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Blaise[/name] – I like [name]Alexander[/name] paired with one-syllable names a lot. I’m not a fan of [name]Blaise[/name], but I like the family connection a lot. If a first boy is [name]William[/name] [name]Balthazar[/name] you’d have a neat “middle name starts with B” theme going on, which I like.
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Crispin[/name] – While the flow is decent, [name]Crispin[/name] just reminds me of Crispy, which is not an adjective I would put on a child. [name]Christian[/name], [name]Christof[/name], and even just [name]Chris[/name]/[name]Christopher[/name] would all be better choices [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Ephraim[/name] – [name]Don[/name]’t like it all. I don’t think it looks very good and I think the flow is off.
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Gideon[/name] – Not a fan of [name]Gideon[/name], but I do like it in this combo
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Gregory[/name] – I do like this! [name]Gregory[/name] is a good solid name and looks good next to [name]Alexander[/name]. The flow is a little off and the name is kind of a lot to say. Would you like [name]Geoffrey[/name] (I think that solves a lot of the flow problem)
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Julian[/name] – I actually prefer [name]Julius[/name] to [name]Julian[/name] with [name]Alexander[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are fine, but [name]Julius[/name] is a step or two better
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Raphael[/name] – I can’t say I like this one.
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] – [name]LOVE[/name] both these names but it’s a little much together. I think [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name] would make a great pair of brother though  (I knew a [name]Sebastian[/name] who went by [name]Ian[/name] if that opens up some nn options for you!)
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Valentin[/name]/[name]Valentine[/name] – I [name]LOVE[/name] the meaning but think saving [name]Valentina[/name] or [name]Valentine[/name] for a daughter would be adorable! With a boy [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Valentino[/name] would be the only one I would use, but it’s definitely a mouth full
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Vincent[/name] – [name]Love[/name] both names and love this combo!.

So, my top three would be: [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Gregory[/name], [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Vincent[/name], and [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Blaise[/name]. [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] are runner ups despite the issues I have with them

The only ones I would COMPLETELY take off the table are [name]Ephraim[/name] and [name]Raphael[/name]. There the ones I look at and think they take away from the gorgeousness of [name]Alexander[/name].

[name]Hope[/name] I was helpful, haha

[name]Henry[/name] is our nephew’s name, so that was always out of contention for us, but I do really like it! And [name]Maximilian[/name] is definitely my favorite [name]Max[/name] name. [name]Arthur[/name] has been growing on me lately.

I do slightly prefer [name]Will[/name] for [name]William[/name], but because our top girls’ choice is [name]Catherine[/name] with the nickname [name]Cate[/name], we’re leaning toward [name]Liam[/name] to distance the connection between the prince and duchess. (Plus, DH really loves [name]Liam[/name].) As for [name]Alexander[/name], I love [name]Xander[/name] or [name]Sasha[/name], but hubby won’t agree to anything but [name]Alex[/name], which I’m fine with as well. (Never considered [name]Alec[/name], though… I might have to mention that to him.)

We’re still loving [name]William[/name] [name]Balthazar[/name], too! I actually started out wanting a girl, but now I’m hoping more for a boy so we get to use it as soon as possible.

Thank you for the suggestions, but they’re not our style. We’re not into surname-y names. (And I’m not that fond of one-syllable names in general, either. [name]Blaise[/name] is a bit of an exception.)

And thanks to everybody else who has commented so far. I think I am going to take [name]Ephraim[/name] off the list. I still really like the name, but I’m thinking it really doesn’t go with [name]Alexander[/name]. Suggestions are welcome, too, if you have any. We prefer biblical and/or saint names. Oh, Shakespearean and mythological names are good, too!

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Gideon[/name] is the first and middle name of a character in The Mortal Instruments. The books also feature characters called [name]Valentine[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Raphael[/name]. That would bug me but if you’re cool with it

Thanks for letting me know! I’ve never read the books, although I’ve heard of them. I’m not sure if that bothers me or not… I’ll have to think about.

All the characters are pretty well named but their names are pretty common so I’m sure nobody would notice. I’m just kind of weird like that, it would forever bug me! That’s exactly why I can’t use some of my favourite names. Example : [name]William[/name] and [name]Charles[/name]. I love them but together all I can think is Weasley.

Some new combos to consider:

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Orpheus[/name]

I’m very partial to [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Julian[/name] because I’ve always adored those two names.

I also like [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Edward[/name]!

[name]William[/name] [name]Balthazar[/name] is awesome. I’m thrilled to see [name]Balthazar[/name] getting some love, even if it is in the middle spot.

[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Valentin[/name] are the only choices from your original list that compete with [name]William[/name] [name]Balthazar[/name] in my opinion. I do like [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Raphael[/name], but the two names kind of run together. [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Malachi[/name] would be great too. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Mordecai[/name] or [name]Zebedee[/name] for the middle spot?

If I didn’t have to take hubby’s opinion into consideration, I would totally be up for [name]Balthazar[/name] as a first name!

[name]Mordecai[/name] is kinda awesome. I think I may like that better than [name]Malachi[/name]… Thanks for the suggestion! [name]Zebedee[/name] is fun, but I think there’s a bit too much “z” sound paired with [name]Alexander[/name].
